Help us to maintain one of the city's Tiny Forest sites.

We'll do some weeding/litter picking/general maintenance at the site and you can see what we got up to at a previous session here.

This session will once again be in collaboration with Trees for Derby and we'll take the lead from Reg from the organisation on what needs doing at the site on the day.

Please wear suitable footwear (walking boots, old trainers, wellies) and any outdoor clothes that are suitable for the weather that day and bring some gardening gloves. We will be outdoors for the entire session and this Tiny Forest site is quite steep so we will mostly be working on a slope.

Please sign up to the session if you are planning to attend so I know who to expect.

Please note that GoodGym Derby regularly meet on a Tuesday evening in the city centre around 6.30pm and also have volunteering opportunities to get involved with throughout the week and at times weekends.

We'll be meeting at Alvaston Park car park (by the Community Centre) and travelling on foot to the Tiny Forest site. This is around 0.7 miles on flat terrain and I've accounted for 20-30 minutes to get to the task location which is plenty of time. I will be walking but people can run ahead if they want to. Full information about Alvaston Park can be found online here. We'll be back at Alvaston Park for 12.30pm for anyone who needs to get back to a vehicle there.

If you want to meet us at the Tiny Forest site, please expect us there from around 10.30am to 12pm. For those meeting at Alvaston Park, please get there for 10am and we will return by 12.30pm

The Tiny Forest is located near Archer Street near to Wimorton Recreation Ground. Here is the site location.

More about Tiny Forests...

There are 208 Tiny Forests across the UK as of December 2023 and over 90 of these are in and around Birmingham. Tiny Forests have been set up by Earthwatch to help combat climate change, urbanisation and our disconnect from nature. The forests are the size of a tennis court and each have 600 native species of trees planted densely together using the Miyawaki method of planting. Tree keepers are needed to be guardians of Tiny Forests and nurture and monitor them. At GoodGym Derby we will be a tree keeper as a collective for the two Tiny Forest sites in Derby. As a group or individually if you are passing by a Tiny Forest site we will aim to: take photos of wildlife sightings, report any antisocial behaviour, clear weeds, pick up litter, report any pests and retag any trees to prevent strangulation.

How are you getting there?
