The volunteers run a varied range of sessions including conversation groups in French, German, Italian and Spanish; English language classes; a book group; poetry sharing and playreading groups; Current Affairs discussions; Craft’n’Chat. Welcome to GoodGym Newcastle

We're a friendly and social group that combines exercise with helping out local charities and community groups. Every Monday evening we meet to get active and do a physical task to make a difference in the Newcastle area. The GoodGym motto is 'Do Good, Get Fit'.

This task on August 31st

We are visiting Jesmond Library to help with some weeding and other gardening. They need help maintaining the area surrounding their building.

The running or cycling distance will be about 1.6 miles, or 2.6km, each way. It's a bit far for there to be a walking group, but anyone who does want to run is welcome to meet us at Jesmond Library, where we hope to arrive around 6:35pm.

Where we meet

We’ll be meeting at Stepney Bank Stables, NE1 2NP. There’ll be GoodGymers in the reception area, look out for the red or black GoodGym t-shirts if you are new! Stepney Bank Stables has a free car park if you are driving there, but walking, running, cycling or using public transport is recommended.

At Stepney Bank Stables you can leave bags and valuables in the staff room, which is able to be locked and is secure. We also have access to the toilet facilities in the building.

Participating at GoodGym Newcastle

GoodGym is for absolutely everyone aged 18 and above. We welcome runners of all abilities, including absolute beginners or those returning from injury. Unless otherwise stated, there will be a walking option at Monday group runs. Occasionally we will be visiting somewhere further afield, when running, cycling or meeting at the location will be the only realistic options. The listing on our website will clearly state this.

There will always be a back marker and/or walk leader on every run or walk to a task, so nobody will ever get left behind - no matter what your pace is.

Options are available to run between 5km and 5km in total

Remember that we run to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.

This is a standard GoodGym group run. If you can't run for more than 15mins without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact us or see if there's a starter session coming up in your area.
