18 amazing runners ran 4km to help shift a tonne of soil at St Lukes school!

It was a strong turnout for a dark November evening.. a whopping 18 of you! Awesome! I always find running is a lot easier with a group through the winter months, so long may it continue!

We had 3 new runners with us last night! Mimi, Emily and Oliver! Welcome all!

The run began with a little warm up, literally running around in circles chasing each other! Just to get the heart rates up before we headed off!

Breaking the rules

Our location for the task was north of the river in the realms of the Tower Hamlets borough. After a journey through the foot tunnel and a little jog the other end we had arrived at the school and were greeted by the lovely Harriet who is a teacher at the school and Myra who helps design various garden projects in the borough.

It was amazing to see how much the garden had changed and grown since our last visit! We had helped build it all those months ago and was lovely to see the vision come to fruition!

Our main task of the evening was to remove some wood logs from a pit where there was going to be a pond put in but plans had changed so it was to be filled instead with more soil. We had a few wheelbarrows, a couple of shovels and everyone got to work!

Half the group got started with moving the logs and then used said logs to map out a woodland path for the children to use! Meanwhile the other half were shovelling soil, dumping it in the hole and levelling it off nicely with a rake.

After just 20 minutes the whole bag of soil had been emptied and lo and behold we were done!! We packed the tools away, had a photo and then on to Millwall Park for some fartlek laps!

We partnered up and aimed to get 5 or 6 sprints in per lap. The park is near enough 800m in total and each pair did 2 laps with a few squeezing in a third fast lap for good luck!

After all that fast running it was time to head back for a stretch and called it a night!

Great job last night everyone! Excellent running and well done getting the task done so quickly! See you next week!
