Getting there

For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!

    About this session

A physical task - bring gardening gloves and equipment.

Chelmsford Lions Club have been asked to help Barrow Farm Riding for the Disabled in Highwood, Chelmsford, upgrade the garden behind their riding school in memory of one of their riders who sadly passed away. The riders grandparents have been fundraising and would like adapt the existing garden to create a sensory space in her memory.

Although the space isn’t huge, there’s a fair bit needs doing such as removing a lot of the vegetation in the garden, including the grass, so there’s a far bit of physical work to do there. We’re also looking to reduce a huge hedge would allow views of the paddocks behind so people can sit out in the garden in the warmer months and actually have tea with the ponies, currently not possible! Part of the garden needs adapting to make it more wheelchair friendly to accommodate up to 16 people from care homes / disabled children.

HomeAbout UsCharitiesGallery & Club InfoCommunityCalendarContact Us Lions are: Ordinary people who belong to one of the world's largest service organisations, with 1.35 million volunteers worldwide active in 208 countries. People who give something back to their communities, who recognise the needs of others and set about meeting those needs. People who enjoy themselves and include fun in their caring attitudes People who give their time freely to help others in their local, national and international communities. Men and women of all ages, who enjoy helping and being part of their community, having fun and fostering friendship Lions clubs are divided into Districts, Regions and Zones (Chelmsford is in Zone B of Region 2 in District 105CE) and nationally (although individual clubs operate autonomously, with decisions voted upon by members of that club). The clubs are non-political and non-sectarian. Lions International was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1917 by insurance agent Melvin Jones and was dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. Chelmsford Club was formed in 1969 and celebrates its anniversary or ‘Charter' in November. We always welcome new members to our active and friendly club. The aim of our club is to help local causes and community while having fun. As well as a wide social calendar we regularly help out at community events wherever there is a need for extra help (see Gallery pictures). We meet on the second Wednesday each month at our hall in Springfield Road and every fourth Wednesday for a social night (see Gallery pictures) to see just some of what we get up to). We always welcome new members to our friendly, active club. Check out the picture galleries via our social/charities pages to see what we get up to or click on the Facebook link.
