About this session

The task this week

The Friends of Larkhall Park is made up of local residents who want to improve the park for the benefit of all communities.

Due to local government cutbacks, the maintenance of the park has reduced so they manage volunteers and initiatives to keep it safe, clean and biodiverse. They have achieved some great stuff, such as improving the children's playground and creating a seeded meadow grass area.

They need some extra helping hands though, and that's where we come in. We'll be doing lots of different tasks around the area, so please bring gloves if you have them.

We'll follow this with a short fitness session. We have a back marker so nobody is ever left behind. All welcome, always!

We'll be following this session with a spooky social at the pub - feel free to bring along treats or tricks and get ready for some gourd old Halloween fun!

Support This Girl Can and Let's Lift the Curfew

Sport England's This Girl Can campaign seeks to change how women think and feel about sport & physical activity and encourage women to be active in ways that work for them, regardless of age, background or ability.

Let’s Lift The Curfew launched in 2023 to showcase women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months when the clocks go back, as well as calling on wider society to acknowledge their role in making getting active outdoors safer for women.

This year, This Girl Can is looking to go bolder and bigger, so they are supporting GoodGym to help transform the campaign into an annual movement that can raise awareness and take critical steps towards making outdoor exercise safer for women.

How to support the campaign

Read up: GoodGym has also produced training for male allies to help contribute towards women’s safety at night that would be good to circulate with any male members.

Clothing considerations: Front and rear runners should ideally wear high-visibility, brightly coloured clothing. Where possible encourage members to use reflective clothing and have some members use headlamps or handheld lights for visibility.

Sharing the event: Use #LetsLiftTheCurfew in all social media related to your event. We'd love to see running leaders and members livestream and post videos and pictures from your LLTC run using the hashtag to build momentum across social media.

What to look out for

Make sure you've read our general guidelines for safety for taking part in a GoodGym session.

This is a GoodGym group run. You'll meet other GoodGymers at the start location and run to the task together. If you can't run for more than 15 minutes without stopping or you're worried about any aspect of the session, contact your area activator Anastasia Hancock (she/her) by email at ana@goodgym.org.

The total distance of this group run is 6km.

Remember that we will be running to and from the task, so you'll only be running for half this distance in one go.
