Tuesday 14th July
Report written by Gill (She/her)
For some of our Goodgymers, Tuesday is no longer called Tuesday but FoodCycle Day. And there were three of our team helping at High Town Baptist Church for today's meal. Gill was first on the scene - turning up early in an attempt to redeem herself on the pudding front having had a bit of a disaster two weeks ago. Today she was determined to tart up some left over dark chocolate easter eggs, and turn them into 5 rather scrumptious chocolate tarts. With home made pastry completed in the morning, and put to rest until her return in the afternoon - she then completed the tarts with a very chocolatey filling. Lucie arrived as the tarts were baking and she and Gill then started on the main course. Some delicious pan roasted onions and peppers and oven roasted aubergines and courgettes to accompany a lovely fresh tabbouleh salad. And out FoodCycle colleagues completed the meal with a starter of slaw and boiled eggs. (Yes we like to plan our meals backwards sometimes).
Abdulrahman made his entrance once the cooking was underway as he was joining the hosting team once again, and after popping in the kitchen for a quick photo call, was then kept busy setting up the hall, and then on service. He finished the evening by helping the team to put the tables and chairs away and complete the cleaning of the hall and kitchen.
FoodCycle use food that would otherwise go to waste and put on a free social dinner for anyone who wants to come along, whether hungry or lonely, they welcome everyone to come for dinner and meet other people
