London Marathon does GoodGym!

Last night 10 runners ran 4km to help at the Crisis charity shop on Walworth road. It was a chilly evening, but that wasn't going to stop us spreading the good. We started with a briefing and a bit more information on the wonderful ways that GoodGym does good before heading outside for a warm up.

Down a side street we skipped, hopped and squat jumped our way to a higher heart and off we set. We twisted and turned, skirting around Elephant and Castle until we arrived at Crisis charity shop on Walworth Road where the manager Adam was waiting for us. The Walworth road shop is one of seven Crisis shops that exist at the moment and has been doing a roaring trade since it opened. It's a beautiful space!

We were set to work in two groups:

  • On the shop floor cleaning and matching shoes

  • In the back room checking CDs, tagging and hanging donations

Both groups got down to business - the largest task was sorting shoes. Two huge chests were full of shoes that either had their matching pair out on the shop floor, inside the chest somewhere or it was a lonely shoe without a friend. Once the CD checkers had finished weeding the scratched from the smooth, they came to help Team Shoe. We weren't leaving until we finished the job! Photos show just what we were dealing with. The shop were so grateful - they've been planning to sort the shoes out for weeks.

It shoe-re was a big job

Finished with the shoes and the CDs, the donation taggers and hangers could have carried on forever but alas we had to leave. We thanked Adam for having us and left the shop to head home. On the way back we stopped at Charles Dickens square for a meet and retreat with burpees thrown in for good measure. Thoroughly warmed up, it was time to get back to the office for a stretch.

Best donation went to some 'Avod-cuddle' pajamas

Great work team!
