Eighteen Good Gym runners braved the rain and the dark, and the hills of Healey , to help Healey Green Veg clear a derelict garden so that it can be brought bag in to use. Gareth from Regather joined us with a selection of tools and we set about digging, hacking, pulling and barrowing: there was just one instruction - 'I want to see bare earth!' So we dug and we hacked and we pulled and we barrowed and the rain fell and some people got so into the task they had to be persuaded to stop. Then time for a group photo and it was all down hill back to the Showroom to celebrate Stephen and Kim's birthday with cake.

Helping to develop a community vegetable growing space

Hello, our names are Fran, Katy and Simon and we live on Alexandra Road and Derby Street. It makes us sad that the old garden at the top of Alexandra Road/ bottom of Denmark Road is an absolute mess. We have spoken with the council and they have given us provisional permission to get together and turn it into a community vegetable growing space! The three of us have already started working on the garden but we would love to meet others who would like to help. There are jobs for everyone to be involved with, from digging over the soil to chatting and sharing gardening knowledge. Our aim is to reduce social isolation, foster community ties and promote friendship. We will be heading along and helping the project get off the ground/into the ground. Don't forget your gloves and head-torches!
