This community mission was our second visit to help the Windsor Homeless Project. In a really interesting conversation with our task owner Liv this evening we learned that they are currently helping approximately 60 guests, and that where they can really make a difference is not just by offering practical support, but by providing a community for people who otherwise have none. The support and compassion they offer is a real life-line to many.

Pre-Covid the charity was based in the Holy Trinity Church Hall and although they have since moved, they wanted help with freshening up the hall as a way of giving back to the church.

Last week 6 runners braved the heat to give the kitchen and the walls a really good scrub. You can read Sara's report on their achievements by clicking here.

This evening Sara and another 5 runners returned on an even hotter evening to give those clean walls a lick of white paint.

A (brush)stroke of GoodGym-nius

Amy, Sara and Sophie armed themselves with brushes and tackled the edges, cracks and other fiddly bits. We learned from Sara that this is called 'cutting in' and after an amazing 99 GoodGym good deeds she should know! Sara suggested the weather warranted a post-task ice-cream...we definitely think she deserves a 99 Flake or three! Sara, we hope you have a great time celebrating getting your wings on your 100th task tomorrow in Slough.

On a roll...

Adele, Rachel and Ana were team roller. A huge welcome to Adele, who joined us for her first GoodGym session, and to Rachel, who was returning for her second mission with Windsor and Maidenhead. It was great to meet you both, and Adele I am so sorry that your glasses got broken. I hope it hasn't put you off coming back for more GoodGym fun soon.

A special mention also goes to Ana, who is on a streak having done a community mission every day that we have had one listed since the 26th of July - that's an amazing 9 missions in 15 days.

When you've got a roller you can really get your skates on, and in a great team effort we covered more of the hall than we had expected. As we cleared up at the end Liv agreed the hall looked more than all-white. Great job everyone!

I don't know why she swallowed a fly

After the task Ana, Amy and Sophie enjoyed a sweaty 4km run, looping around the river. This was another team effort - Amy planned the route, Sophie kept us from getting lost, Ana took some beautiful photos, Sophie swallowed a fly and Ana led the sprint finish.

We have lots more community missions listed for the next few weeks. Check out our happenings page for the latest opportunities to get involved.

Enabling homeless and vulnerable people to re-build their lives

The Windsor Homeless Project offers empathy and practical support to the homeless and vulnerable in a non-judgemental and compassionate way. The Project began in 2009 after a homeless man named Patrick O'Leary died in Windsor from cold and lack of care. A community came together determined that this should never happen again. http://www.windsorhomelessproject.org/
