Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alyx Murray-Jackman
Our small little group met up on a sunny evening, after a very cloudy day, and we ran 4km into Tower Hamlets to help with the council's Big Clean Up event. We had Ying join us for her very first run, after taking some time out of running for a couple of years.
As it was such a long run, we headed off bang on time to try and get there on time, but took the run steady, learning some great running techniques along the way. We learned about "sockets to pockets" arms - which is the technique used to ensure you run in a good rhythm and with good posture. Surprisingly it gives you a good boost and power whilst running too! We also thought about having a helium balloon coming out from the top of our head, pulling us into an upright position with our shoulders down and relaxed - this is another great way to ensure you're in the right posture.
When we arrived at Swedenborg Gardens we had a scavenger hunt to try and find the people from Tower Hamlets Council so we could join them on their Big Clean Up event that the GoodGym Tower Hamlets group also helped out with on Monday evening. However after 10 minutes of running around they were nowhere to be seen. We therefore did a quick core-triathlon in the park, and then ran to Tower Hill station to get the tube back to base, as we were super tired from all the running we had already done.
Once back at base we did some stretches, and spoke about our run next week where we are running to hand out cards to the homeless that informs them about how to access local GP surgeries.
