Redbridge Foodbank has been working with local Sainsbury's to collect donations from generous shoppers all over the local area, from Ilford to Barkingside & Newbury Park.

All these donations need collecting & sorting in different categories & BBE dates. Cue a team of Foodbank volunteers assisted by a variety of Goodgym Runners from Islington (Graham), Bexley (Neil) & Redbridge (Tally).

After a slow start where the team preserved energy waiting for the first load to arrive, there wasn't really a moments rest for the next hour and a half or so. Luckily the flow evened out a bit after that so there were some moments to catch a breath and re-hydrate, with a few nibbles to keep up energy levels.

End results:

  • huge amount of crates sorted

  • few signs of sunburn

  • tired muscles all around

We'll keep in touch to see if there will be more opportunities in the future to lend a hand, so watch this space!

P.S... one does wonder about a crate labelled 'vegetarian', hidden between the vegetables... any vegetarians gone missing?
