Batcliffe Woods is a small area of woodland in Headingley. A group of volunteers helped the Leeds Countryside Ranger to trim and thin the saplings and mature trees and create wild habitats for small animals and insects. We also saw work in progress on another giant mural on the end of a nearby terrace with a wildlife theme.

We work to improve the woodland for both wildlife and the local community

We are a group of local volunteers who meet up 4 times a year to help improve this woodland. We are supported by a Leeds City Council Ranger who provides all tools, risk assessments and first aid. We carry out yearly woodland thinning and maintenance task, we have a wildflower meadow that we take care of and we install new infomations boards, benches and memorial trees when funding is available.

We are a small charity with limited resources, so jobs like this often fall by the wayside. It helps us to continue to focus on our core work, but also with compost, it means we can have less inputs and save money
