There was just something about this run that made it extra special - thats how it felt to me anyway.

It was a good trek, Saffron Acres is by no means near, and with the mercury touching 30 degrees we had to be cautious - as Frank said "Its just not cooling down is it?"

Jim led. A sensible shady route at a sensible pace with plenty of regroups.

A welcome late sign up was Carlos. We learned that not only did he run a splendid sub 22 minute pace at our ParkRun event on Saturday but on Sunday he did his first ever Half Ironman. Approx 2k swim 85k bike and 20k run - just wow - and still enough energy to come and do some good work for the community - youre a star Carlos.

At the Acres we were met by Task Force Mel. Trusty shopping trolley in hand with tools and....... wait for it drinks and cakes - yes cakes - nom nom nom!!

I wish to point out here this was all her own idea - she told me she had bought the stuff and who was I to argue - great idea and everyone everyone availed themselves. Most welcome and re energised us for the task.

Simply put it was to clear as much bramble as possible and thats what we did. It almost seemed like no one wanted to leave. The before and after shots tell the story, huge difference and huge pile of removed bramble, I am sure the task owners will be impressed.

A hot night but such a lovely place to be. We were late packing up but I didnt want to spoil the fun. We sat on the bench, chatted, drank more juice and polished off ALL of the cakes before setting off for a steady jog back to base.

In the interests of Health & Safety we dispensed with anything more strenuous than a gentle jog figuring that another 2.5 miles in stifling heat was exercise enough - if the aim of GoodGym is to arrive back at the end of a group run "slightly sweaty" we certainly hit the mark.

I am immensely proud of the group, so willing to get stuck in and make a difference - Thanks Team.
