We were greeted this afternoon by Mrs. E and her family, who were concerned at first that we would not be strong enough to lift the furniture necessary to prepare the house for her husband’s return from hospital. They were happily surprised to find that we made up for our lack of physical presence with our determination!

We essentially played Tetris with various armchairs, turning and rotating them to fit through doors into their new homes, and moved a bed for Mr. E down the stairs into the lounge. We managed the feat with some helpful guidance from Mrs. E’s son, who was slightly more spatially aware than the group of us!

At the end, we sat down for a chat and a lovely cup of tea with the family, during which we learned about some of the highlights of Mr. & Mrs. E’s 60+ years of life together, as well as some of the challenges the couple are facing in their later lives. We all jogged off in separate directions, but no doubt with similar thoughts on our minds - wishing the best for this lovely family through whatever comes next for them.
