SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Juliet Stevenson
This evening we ran around 3-4km to pick, cut, water and plant at Addiscombe Railway Park
Off to Addiscombe Rail Park we headed to help the Friends group with a number of tasks in the Community Garden and throughout the park. Water was lugged in wheelbarrows from a tap at one end of the park, shears came out to cut grass round bushes and trees, Litter picks and bags were wielded with great success picking up around 6 bags of rubbish, plants and bulbs were plante and some small sapling wre tied up. *Lawrence was ingenious in his use of a trowel to cut the twine as we had no scissors.! Some biscuits and brownies from Lauren rounded the task off nicely. We had a large group of 22 runners tonight and in the words of the recently departed Brucie “Didn’t they do well!”
So many new runners tonight so a big GoodGym Croydon welcome to Caroline, Lisa, Ashley, Chris, Paul, Jo, Amy and we really hope to see you again soon – hopefully the lure of our monthly social next week will lure them back!
Like last week we split the group into two groups of those wishing to push themselves a bit more in terms of speed and distance and another group happier to run at a chatty pace! We did all do the fitness session together though and practiced hill sprints (although it was more of a gentle slope from where I was standing) in pairs – the normal warning of this is not a race, go at your own pace ignored as normal and some fierce battling was going on! Since the group were obviously feeling a little bit competitive we then had a relay race but with different types of movement – skipping, running, lungings etc and as I didn’t want those waiting in line to get cold they squatted, balanced and star-jumped.
Thanks to Stephen for his topical railway related pun tonight. Once we got back to the start we had a cool-down and quick chat about Missions, Coach runs and how to become a member of GoodGym.
There are also 5 Starter sessions coming up soon in September - 2 have already been posted on the website.
Next Tuesday’s run will be heading to Thornton Heath Rec to help Atul and his friends.
