This afternoon we helped to sort and plant corms at Saffron Central

This afternoon we met at Saffron Central in Queens Gardens where we helped finish off the amazing work done on the previous day by around 50 volunteers. The task over the weekend was to repot thousands of corms (crocus bulbs) in Saffron Central where over the next 4-6 weeks they will grow, bloom and be harvested. Just a little warning though you need to harvest the correct crocus plants (Crocus sativus) other wise you won’t be feeling too well! Our tasks included covering up the croci planted yesterday, emptying pots of earth and salvaging the crocus corms and then repotting them larger containers to allow them to grow better. A few other volunteers came along too and after one and half hot and sweaty hours we completed the task.

I did have a fun fitness session planned but with the end in sight the GoodGym runners were all keen to complete the task and forgo the run although Swazi did promise to run to the tramstop and Amatare had run all the way to Saffron Central. I thing the squatting to sort through the pots and arm strengthening lifting the earth was a pretty decent workout on is own.

We have one more starter session next weekend so we’d love to see more new and regular runners come along to that if possible. The Starter sessions are to introduce new runners to GoodGym and give them a chance to see what we do and also to tell them about Coach run and Missions.

This Tuesday’s run will be to the Salvation Army - so sign up here and we’ve also got our social at BoxPark afterwards.
