A Step in the 'Light' Direction

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

Another lovely night back with our good friends at the Lighthouse Centre this week.

Our mission tonight was to get the Centre clean and COVID ready for re-opening it's doors to visitors who will be coming in for a hot meal.

We split into 3 groups in order to stay safely social distanced. One group tackled the main hall: dusting, disinfecting, wiping, polishing, hoovering and mopping. The hall was positively gleaming and smelling as sweet as a daisy by the end of the evening. Another small group sorted through bags of clothing donations, getting them ready for people to use. And last but by no means least, our lovely married couple, Barry & Pam got cosy in the shed re-organising all the food and toiletries.

As always, David and Paul were so welcoming and hospitable, offering us lovely refreshments (and you wonder why we keep coming back! ;-)) when we had finished.

Our efforts this evening meant that the Lighthouse Centre is now one step closer to opening their doors on Thursday. We are proud to have played a part in helping to make this happen and as always, I am immensely proud of the commitment of our lovely members. It's a pleasure to spend time with you all each week.

Here's to more missions, more fun and more friendship.

Nicola xx

Victoria completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Victoria was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Curious? Victoria has just run their first session in another area. For that explorative spirit Victoria is awarded the scout badge. A Scout is trustworthy

Back Together Having 'Shed' Loads of Fun!

Crewe Report written by Nicola Marshall

After so many weeks in lockdown, it was absolutely awesome to be back at the Lighthouse Centre with so many familiar faces - and to meet some new faces for the first time too (a huge welcome to Megan & Victoria). 17 runners made our way from home to the centre - some walked and some ran but we all made our own way there using some form of exercise.

Social distancing rules were observed with some members working on the inside taking boxes down from the loft and another group working outside clearing out two sheds - all tasks that needed doing in order to get the building COVID ready for the people visiting the church again. It really was a team effort and with 17 of us, we really did make a big impact in a short space of time.

As always, we were warmly welcomed by Pastor David and colleague Paul. It was very humbling to hear David tell us that the impact of our help meant that they can now open their doors to serve meals to the homeless sooner than anticipated.

At the end of the evening, we received lovely refreshments (Chocolate is always a winner!) and had a good 'socially distanced' natter. I think we all enjoyed catching up so much that many of us were reluctant to go home!

When we did eventually manage to part company, we all made our way home for a well earned rest.

It really was a fab night and lovely to see everyone again. Here's to many more community missions!! XXX
