**On a very wet February evening, 11 intrepid goodgymers walked and ran to support Clothing Coventry. **
Unperturbed by rain, which thankfully began to dry up once we'd done introductions and a warm up, we set off on the short journey to Clothing Coventry. We had lots of walkers tonight Laura so led this group whilst Lil did the warm up for those running. Once we arrived at the warehouse we got into smaller groups for the various tasks. Some set to tidying and sorting whilst others made light work of assembling some shelving. When this was completed, we had the fun task of filling the new racks with a fantastic assortment of shoes that people will be able to select for themselves. We also did several trips up and down the stairs with stock and to the adjacent warehouse which proved a great way to inject some fitness into the task.
Top work everyone, we look forward to seeing you at future sessions too.

We transferred a mountain of shoes from warehouse 1 to warehouse 2. Pouring the bags of shoes onto the floor we found ourselves surrounded by a sea of soles. Our brave Goodgymers were determined to bring order to the unruly footwear flood, grouping the pairs into sizes and bagging up ready to add to crates in the other warehouse.
James, Steve and Laura remained in warehouse 1 with James and Steve upstairs moving and sorting crates of shoes and Laura keeping guard downstairs sorting clothes.
The team made light work of the task which would have taken Jo a heck of a long time on her own. Shoeper duper work everyone!
Making our way back to base the walking group escorted Jo to the pool meadow while the runners took a detour to try and meet at Cov boys and girls club at the same time. The walkers were way too speedy for us and were already getting in their cars by the time we arrived back so we quickly cooled down and said our farewells.
Next week, plogging and jogging along the canal! see you there :)

Steve Frazer earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Steve completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Steve was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Tonight we were helping the Mothers Who Make Coventry group with their new community garden project. They held a planter making workshop earlier in the year but they need more to be built to fill the space so GoodGym were called in to assist!
We were welcomed by Emily and Adele who led us through to the Old Grammar school yard, which is mainly pebbles and paving, but the vision is to fill this space with flora and fauna for people to enjoy. The planters that have already been made and planted up were looking great and we were eager to get to work to make some more.
We all got straight into it, tackling the pile of pallets with our crow bars, screwdrivers and hammers while James went back to the van to get out his power tools. Everyone managed really well as it really is a very time consuming job and difficult to do without the wood splitting. James’ circular saw was the best thing ever and made easy work of cutting the wood, like a knife through butter. After a while we all got into a bit more of a rhythm and found our feet. Talking of feet, I hope yours are ok Steve - ouch!
Collectively we made a good start on 2 planters and we will be booking in another session to finish them off. Was great to be a part of actually making something, looking forward to going back!

7 GoodGymers made there way to Kairos tonight with a walking and running group. The running group took a longer route while Sharon and Laura walked, arriving at Kairos at pretty much the same time.
Tonight we had the pleasure of meeting our newcomer Steve, we welcomed back Sharon and we also had Graeme join us who we haven't seen for a while, great to see you all!
It was lovely to be back at Kairos they are making great progress and have assembled some vegetable planters where the shed was which look great! Esther from Team Springboard explained all the tasks that needed doing and we split into groups. Graeme and Sharon shoveled the top layer of soil into bags ready for compost to be spread on top while Steve got to work trimming the overgrown bush. Deb, Laura and Maddie were shoveling the piles of rubble, that we moved last time, into bags ready to be taken away in a van tomorrow and Graeme and Steve then moved all the heavy slabs. We had a bit of a change around, as the shoveling was pretty tough going, and everybody just going stuck in helping each other when needed.
We were busy from start to finish and it was a great team effort. We tidied up, scoffed some goodies that the Kairos team had kindly bought (this was definitely Steves favourite bit!) then we made our way back to CBGC.
We shall be back to help them some more in 2 weeks. Good work everyone!
