Following Liz’s warm up we ran to Granville Centre where we took on tasks to clean the kitchen. We started off by preparing buckets with hot water and soapy detergent before getting scrubbing in fridges and on walls. Liz made the fridge glimmer then put back all the apples she’d removed. Pete scrubbed the fridge shelves whilst I added the sparkling touch to the walls as I got rid of all those cooking stains. Amy also contributed to the fridge cleaning, removing old debris and scrubbing doors and shelves until they shined. Then we ran back to the pub for a refreshing drink and some cake. It was definitely a concerted group effort! I look forward to seeing you all next week!!!

On Monday evening Liz welcomed us all to Goodgym Brent, and it was great to have her back with us again. Liz led Samina, Tabitha and Pete through a warm up to get us all ready for the run, then we set off for the short sprint to Brondesbury Park Station .
Energy Garden supports communities to install and maintain gardens on railway stations across London, and they had requested the help of Goodgym to help water the plants. When we arrived at the station we met Amy who we were very happy to see. We had received instructions of what to do so managed the first task of letting ourselves in to the garden where there were a number of watering cans waiting for us. We used these to water the vegetables in the gardens, while trying to guess what was what... squash, runner beans, kale, chilli, something green looking...
We were shortly joined by Energy Garden's regular volunteer Beatrice who showed us how to connect a hose to the water Butts, as well as fill the watering cans directly from the Butts. (I am sure there are lots of puns about Water Butts, but I will avoid those).
Our final Goodgymer Becka arrived shortly after and quickly learnt the ropes. The team then shared the jobs with filling and re filling watering cans to ensure the whole garden was well watered. The garden runs along the full length of the platform, and the vegetables, flowers and fruit trees all welcomed the water. Unfortunately, the full Energy garden had not survived the earlier summer heat wave as the Butts had not collected enough water to keep the garden on the opposite platform alive. They are hoping it will revive shortly, now the weather has cooled and the rain is returning.
Once the ground was suitably wet we regrouped for a team photo then ran back to Willesden for a cool down, and then a drink and some celebratory cake!

This evening I was joined outside Papagayo cafe by Sam, who was on tour from GG Southwark, Khush, returning for his second Brent GG run and Samina and Helen, committed Brent GG runners. After, a quick warm-up we set off for our run to the Granville Centre.
We were greeted by Lesley, who shared information about the work undertaken at the centre to support the local community, including news of the new city farm! We were also joined by GG's Sam, Roberto, Amy and Emily.
We quickly set to work, cleaning fridges, scrubbing cookers, sorting cupboards and tidying shelves. Soon, the kitchen was squeaky clean and super tidy.
The evening ended with a run back to Papagayo and a well deserved beverage.
Super work, team!

This week did a community mission at TRIAD charity clothes shop in Kilburn, to help clear out and tidy up their store ready to re stock.
We started by clearing the racks, and learnt that some Pisces folded clothes better than others. But it didn't matter when hauling them into the giant crates for collection the next day.
Then we did some more clear up: sorting clothes hangers in boxes, clearing the floor, and knocking down the SALE signs.
Rearranging the SALE signs pointed us to our next activity, which Pete showed up just in time for. The perks of an early task is an early finish and more time for the pub, where we celebrated the day with a couple of ALES (and fruity ciders).

Once again we met at the Queensbury ready for a Monday full of running and weeding! What more could you want on a Monday night??!
This week it was Clitterhouse Farm that needed our help. Pete led the way on the 2.25km run via Cricklewood, and we were met by Anika who showed us how to remove the sticky Willy that was taking over the wild flower garden, as well as removing the weeds all over the path. With seven of us hard it work, we managed to remove buckets of the stuff before it was time to head back to base...after a team photo and a quick stop at the Buggingham Palace.
We ran back to Willesden Green where Sabina led us in a thorough a cool down incorporating a number of great stretches.
*Great work team !!! *
