On this warm sunny evening we headed out to the ⚽ 61 Football Club to paint the clubhouse walls and the ironwork on the stand. There were loads of us so it took some time to find everyone a task to do but we got everyone scraping and painting in the end.
We also met two new guys keen to join us, Ashkan and Amir, the team keeps on growing!
Before too long the slightly scruffy clubhouse walls were looking much smarter with a new coat of brick red paint and the ironwork was shining bright blue too.
With all the hard work done, we settled down on the pitch to refresh ourselves with a nice cool Athletic Brew alcohol-free amber ale 🍺, before we began our journeys home.

Two years of GoodGym Luton needed celebrating with style so we met up at the University, welcomed Jelena and Ehsan before setting off to our most iconic task: Tidying the Welcome to Luton gravel sign.
The walkers set off early while the runners warmed up and took a slightly longer route to the task, but both groups had to take on the gruelling hill up to Stockwood Park. On arrival at the sign we found it was not in a terrible shape but we set to work pulling out the weeds that had sprung up since our last visit.
With all the weeds gone it was time for our anniversary photo shoot before heading onwards to celebrate all our achievements at Gill's house where she kindly hosted us for drinks and BBQ.
In the last two years GoodGym Luton members have achieved an amazing 1458 good deeds by 57 different members, we've run over 12600 km and given and received nearly 14000 cheers!
12 of us have achieved 50 good deeds and earned a black shirt while 7 have completed 100 and got their winged shirt!

First there was one of us, who cycled down for a lonely task of scraping the paint off the final side of fence posts at Club 61. Feeling rather lonely and vulnerable, a shout out on WhatsApp resulted in Abdo taking pity on Gill and joining her in the gruelling paint stripping task. And then before long Musa, who had been volunteering as a Goodgym Marshall across town, galloped in on his trusty steed (well actually he pedalled in on his push bike) and so our trio managed to wield their scrapers (en grade) and finish scraping the paint off all the remaining fence posts. It was definitely a case of all for one and one for all as Gill had run out of steam towards the end and needed all the encouragement she could get.
Hoping the rest of the team can rally for a final mission to complete the painting before too long.

This week's group run took us to the Stony Hill Nature Reserve where a familiar foe needed dealing with: goldenrod.
It was a small patch of the invasive goldenrod plant but it was mixed in with some thorny brambles which slowed us down a bit as we avoided getting pricked!
It was a lovely warm sunny summer evening, a kind we haven't seen many of this summer! So we took it easy on the way back into town and jogged and walked back, enjoying the weather as we went.
Sunday 6th August
Abdo earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Abdo completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Abdo was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

5 GoodGymers met again at Club 61 to do another stint of painting the fence posts around the football pitch. David, Gill and Yasin peddled up Beech Hill to meet Abdo R. and Adam at the ground. It was a pretty gloomy day, but at least it wasn’t tipping down like last Sunday when the task had to be postponed. Having Lucky Adam with us was a good omen that we would get lots done. So we managed to transform another stretch of fencing from grimey grey to brilliant white; white as far as the eye could see! The club had a match on - no idea what the score was, but the footballers all thought that GoodGym were champions for all the work we’ve been doing to improve this community facility. Well done to all the Goodgymers over the past week who’ve been involved. Our efforts are really appreciated.

A bunch of six GoodGymers met up for this week's group run, though with some injuries and just a short distance to cover we took it easy and there was a lot of walking on a lovely sunny evening after the rain.
We split our runners and the 500 flyers into two teams and pitted them against each other on a race around two blocks of houses, delivering flyers as we went.
Putting a flyer through fellow GoodGymer Gail's door guilted her into coming out and joining us on a lap of her block.
Both teams reunited in the end. The finish was too close to call so we settled on a tie and headed into People's Park for a quick upper body workout. We did some tricep dips, squats, press-ups and planks before heading to the pull-up bars for some hanging leg raises to finish off before heading back into town.
