Christmas Deliveries.

Thursday 23rd December 2021

Written by Jo Kitching

Firstly a huge welcome to Brian and Jenny who joined Katie and Jo at St Margaret’s this morning for their first Goodgym mission. Katie and Jo started a little earlier to help with bagging up fresh chickens that had been kindly donated by a local butcher.

One the chickens had been bagged the next task was to find the correctly labelled box (except the P ones) and put these into a vehicle ready for delivery. Brian, Jenny, Katie and Jo limbered up in the hall making sure our muscles were ready for the lunges, squats and lifting that we would do once we found the box.

Jo volunteered to ride shotgun with one of the drivers and headed out to delivery 6 of the boxes whilst the Carew-Robinson’s continued to lift and load the remaining boxes.

In a task that truly embodied the phrase "many hands make light work" the team of volunteers at St Margaret's today sorted and loaded an entire day's worth of hampers in just two hours! Well done, team!

Thanks Ellie for being our photographer!

Thank you for the music

Wednesday 14th April 2021

Tracy and I joined other volunteers getting St Margaret's Church ready to open its community shop.

What a buzz of activity, with socially distanced helpers at different stations inside the church: stocking the food bank, the children & baby section, the cafe (to open after 17 May), and the stylish home wares.

Tracy helped unpack goods on the ground floor, while I was tasked with packing away all the Christmas items to go into storage. Next Tracy & I were asked to find the best way to display music items, including a vast donation of classical music vinyl records. Tracy had the best time, flicking through the collection, exclaiming about the range of composers, while I just wanted to stack 'em high! We completed our display with CDs and a range of musical instruments.

St Margaret's Church is certainly a great place to visit, grab a bargain and from next month, to have a coffee and sink into one of their huge sofas.
