Skirting around the issue

Thursday 12th March 2020

Written by Katie Carew-Robinson (she/her)

Four of us headed back to SSJ to continue with the painting job.

Tonight Judy was up a ladder painting round window frames and touching up the office paintwork. She was also spreading mud round from her earlier planting task!! Good job we're GoodGym and tidy up after ourselves!

The rest of us were sitting on the floor painting the skirting boards and inhaling many paint fumes!

Smells Like White Spirit

Thursday 5th March 2020

Written by Maxine VSG

5 GoodGymers met up at our weekly Thursday community mission to celebrate Lucy's birthday with some painting and scrumptious cakes from Katie - who says you can't not have cake on your birthday!

Lucy quickly offered to hop up the ladder after my initial shaky steps up it - plus after all the drips I made a few weeks ago it seemed a better idea! Katie became her lackey, doing the wall trimmings, holding up her tray and basically whatever the birthday girl needed!

Duncan, Lynn and myself took to the door frames with the nutty almond white gloss paint! We liked the difference it made so much we made a start on the skirting boards as well. And we are going to blame the runny paint this time for the drips everywhere we went, instead of our painting talents! Luckily Duncan proved quite skilled at swigging white spirit and managed to make it look like we had never passed!

We wrapped up the evening with a tidy up - including Katie sniffing her white spirit mug which prompted Lynn's title for this evening! And finally the lovely birthday cakes to perk us up for the rainy journey home.

Thank you all for coming, feel free to join next week or any other Thursday in the near future as we are booked up for awhile! Check out our listings here!

All White On The Night

Thursday 27th February 2020

Written by Catherine

Following the prompt arrival off all 5 good-deeders tonight we were able to get straight back to getting those walls brilliant white in the kitchen/dining area.

To start Lucy and Aimee paired up to brave the ladder to coat the top of one wall, while Lynn got rolling on the other wall with Louisa and I doing some edging.

With some swift work it was not long before we were able to swap walls and even manage to get a bit of singing and dodgy dancing in while listening to our "Painting and Decorating" playlist. Yes, that's really a thing.

There is still some work to be done with second coats and more edging, so check out the next couple of weeks to sign up on the Thursday evening missions.

That's how we roll!

Thursday 20th February 2020

Tonight we headed back to SSJ to crack on with some more painting to spruce up the communal areas.

David showed up for his second GoodGym task so Lynn and I straight him straight to work up the ladder in the kitchen getting all those hard to reach places thanks to his incredible height! Lynn cracked on in the corner of the kitchen previously unpainted as it was behind the large fridge freezer, to get a first coat done. I helped David with the edges to get that wall complete, and of course supervised his ladder climbing, while enjoying some donuts that Erin from SSJ kindly ensured were dairy free! Sarah and Vicki were left to there own devices in the small office that needed a second coat. Sarah of course did a great job bringing her own equipment to get some all important edges done, while Vicki was working so hard she actually broke a roller!

We're back at SSJ again next week so make sure you sign up as there is still plenty to be done!

Stone Washed Leggings

Thursday 13th February 2020

Written by Maxine VSG

On Valentine's Eve, 5 GoodGymers made their way to Society of St James for some painted love!

Katie & Maxine finished off the high bits from last week. Where Katie not only supervised my ladder wobble, but also mopped up all of my dripped paint - as we concluded I might be the most talented at splattering paint (a much sought after skill??)

We shortly joined Lynn, Lucy & Aimee in a new room where they had already whipped around a fair bit with a roller! White all around with a feature "Stone" coloured wall - we all ooed after this color and considered it for our own places!

There were laughs all around as usual - as Aimee discovered (after already using the ladder across one wall) the amazing difference wearing shoes make and Katie realised her bum might be a bit bigger than expected, having come down from a table with Stone Washed Leggings! Lynn shared the story of her name - and what a long jump it was to getting it! And our Worthing based Lucy filled us in with some gossip to mix up from the usual Portsmouth crowd!

We will be back next week to finish off this room and move on to the next one Erin has prepared for us!

Paint no mountain high enough

Thursday 6th February 2020

Written by Samantha Belfrage

Eight GoodGym runners went back for a third time to paint some of the therapy and work spaces for SSJ.

To start with all eight of us were squished into a small room, which rapidly turned into a sauna. Luckily for us Judy found the aircon and we could carry on painting without mentioning the rising temperature every 5 seconds.

Sarah came prepared tonight with her own foil dish and paint bush. I feel I could learn a LOT from Sarah about painting and decorating. However based on mine and Louisa's last painting task we were both directed to work under the desks where no one would see our painting. Jo worked wonders up the ladder and reached places many of us could only dream of.

Once the therapy room upstairs become free Lynn & Catherine speedily finished the boarders to complete that room.

As usual there were many laughs and we were so pleased with how much we achieved in the short space of time.

Thank you Val for the excellent photos! It's a little bit like where's wally looking for Louisa & I.

We're back again next Thursday so do sign up if you can.
