'aving an appy time at parkrun

Saturday 14th January 2023

Written by Linda Cairns (she/her)

Sheffield GoodGymers made their way to help out at their local parkruns. I went to a damp Monsal Trail where I was timekeeper. If it is raining, you have to keep your phone screen dry as the parkrun Volunteer App thinks the rain drops are finishers. Tip: Take an umbrella; put your phone in a bag; or put it in your pocket and use your earphone switch to record the times.

Castle running

Saturday 6th August 2022

Written by Sheffield runner

GoodGym did the goodgym thing today for me: volunteering at Castle park run motivated me to run to get there so I did my 2.5 miles up hill run before 8.30am. As someone who isn't really into running and usually just cycles because I get to sit down, GG does what it says on the tin. Thank you!

The lovely Charlotte and Carys were there also volunteering and providing some of the cake to celebrate 9 years of that park run. Really nice to see them. Celine did the run in a fantastic time for quite a hilly course. And Celine also bumped into Yvette who is GG affiliated but not to Sheffield...yet. They've joined the what's app so I'll hear the story sometime.

After cake and juice we headed to the Rhubarb shed for breakfast. And then onto Food Works whilst we were east side. Lovely morning!

A GG takeover... in a Manor of speaking

Saturday 5th February 2022

Written by Rachel (she/her)

Helen, Linda, Max and Rachel met Run Director Charlotte this morning at Castle Parkrun in Manor. The winds were high and the skies were grey as we hoped and prayed the rain would stay away until we'd finished. We all started by competing on how many layers we were wearing and still moaning we were cold! 😄

I was timekeeping for the first time and feeling the pressure, so glad to have the very experienced Linda as back up. Max was barcode scanning. We all danced to keep warm as we cheered on the 65 runners and walkers including GoodGym family Carys (who finished 13th, despite starting late!), Sarah and Helen bringing up the rear as tailwalker.

Next one is planned to be Concord 5th March - it would be great to start getting better turnouts so it can be a real monthly "takeover" improving Goodgym's visibility and allowing to offer pacers
