River Run Raid: GoodGym X RSC Great River Clean Up

Join Goodgym for a run to Nursery Street Pocket Park where they will be helping the River Stewardship Company clean up the banks of the River Don.

Join the River Stewardship Company, GoodGym and ShAFF for a mass clean up event on the banks of the river Don. Hundreds of people use the river every day for commuting or fitting in a lunchtime jog, and we'd like to encourage this active use by keeping it free of plastic and rubbish.

River Stewardship Company runs regular volunteer cleanups on the river to help control flooding and keep the area clear for both people and wildlife.

5 GoodGymers have supported River Run Raid: GoodGym X RSC Great River Clean Up with 3 tasks.

AbbeyDale's Supermarket Sweep up!

Thursday 24th February 2022

Written by Natalie G

The Tesco superstore in Abbeydale is a hot-spot for littering and lots of rubbish builds up along the river bank, much of which is inaccessible. Originally the mission involved donning waders and life jackets to clear the banks but due to the storms the water level was far too high. So Goodgym Natalie and Max, alongside volunteers from the Sheffield Litter Pickers and staff from the Rivers Stewardship Council did an extensive litter pick across the entire area. After all, every litter(le) helps!

A Flood of Generosity

Saturday 4th September 2021

Written by Rachel (she/her)

3 Goodgymmers, 2 councillors, members of the Sheaf and Porter River Trust, River Stewardship Company, Environment agency and lots of lovely locals turned up this morning to help clean up a stretch of the River Sheaf.

We had a quick briefing, before getting kitted up with helmet, life jacket, gloves and wellies/waders and then divided into 3 groups to tackle 3 different areas.

We picked litter along the paths and then worked our way down the banks to clear more litter and debris from the river and also clear Himalayan Balsam.

All sorts was pulled from the river including shopping trolleys (always!), pallets, barrier posts and 5m long metal railings!

Once we were nearing the end, Michelle headed off to lunch with a friend, whilst James and I (once he'd finished paddling) enjoyed complimentary refreshments, took photos and exchanged filthy innuendos before heading home to get cleaned up.

Best get my double-G's out for the camera

Here comes James with his long pole

I think you've shown me your crotch-hole before

We even got tweeted by a Baroness! https://mobile.twitter.com/natalieben/status/1434134643670925314?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet
