Mission: ImPOTSsible

Saturday 13th April

Written by Rachel White

What a wonderful sunny morning and no better way to spend it but by being outside in an urban garden. Rachel, Helen, Olivia and Arshad all met at the Kingston Environment Centre to help Pat spruce up the yard.

Armed with brushes and dustpans, they slowly worked round each section scooping up decaying leaves, pulling up weeds and transporting the green waste to the compost bins. Lovely to have a chat and bask in the sunshine.

A big welcome to Arshad on his first Goodgym task and lovely to see Helen and Olivia on their second tasks! Hope you enjoyed it and see you at another task soon.

Clean up at the KEC

Tuesday 30th August 2022

Written by Rachel White

Our Tuesday group run took us to the Kingston Environment Centre to help Pat tidy up and sort out the community hall. There was a traffic jam which made getting to our meeting point tricky for some - Sevan got a stride on and caught up with our group of runners after we had started running, Tara had to forego the run and meet us there and sadly Jassy was stuck so long on the A3 she didn't make it to the task at all! Hopefully the traffic won't be quite as bad next week.

As soon as we arrived, Pat had written a list of jobs on a chalkboard that we powered through - moving a gazebo, breaking down boxes, sweeping leaves and weeding. Big grey clouds threatened rain but fortunately we didn't get caught in any downpours - even though the garden desparately needed it. The light soon faded as our hour was up but not before a brilliant pink, hazy sunset.

A big welcome to Micheal on his first GoodGym task and to Amreet for her second. Hope you enjoyed the task - see you soon!

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚What a Re-Leaf we had Be-Leaf ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ

Tuesday 27th October 2020

Written by Claire Dunne

It was a re-leaf it wasnโ€™t raining for a favourite GoodGym task - leaf clearing at the Environmental Centre.

With great be-leaf in our abilities we swept the area in front of the centre of all the wet leaves and to our disbe-leaf we had finished in no time.

For our next task the garden and along the side of the building were in need of some leaf re-leaf. After some more clearing the garden, dome and plants were ready and leaf free.

Welcome to Russel on his first mission.

Weedid it

Tuesday 1st September 2020

Written by Rob Haworth

Back to school for some back to the eco centre for GoodGym. The community garden was in need of some old fashioned weeding, sweeping and general tidying and we were only too happy to assist. Arriving by bike, bus and foot, we were greeted by a friendly smile and nice clear sign. The jobs were simple and plentiful, weed, sweep, tidy and paint if there was time. Everyone set to work in their chosen socially distant areas and soon the compost was literally piling up. Thankfully there was time for Jane and Kay to show off their straight line painting skills, by marking the edge of the steps with paint and an upside down plant pot for a straight edge. A for effort, and that's all that counts right? Welcome back to Kay, almost a year on from her first group run and welcome to Rosy from Richmond/Ham. Look forward to seeing you both again soon. Keep your eyes peeled for a return visit in October where there will be piles of leaves to sweep and the promise of mint tea!

Sprucing up a hidden KRAG: a TREEmendous task ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ

Sunday 2nd December 2018

Written by Rob Haworth

It's amazing the hidden spaces you find right on your door step through GoodGym. This certainly was the case with the appalty named KRAG (Kingston Road recreation ground).

After posing for photos and much discussion about what to plant where, we were soon into the action and digging away. Samia heard about about some brambles that needed tackling, and just couldn't resist herself. So off she went never to be seen again....

The rest of us got digging and planting bushes and flowers, and soon had the whole job all wrapped up. So soon in fact messages had to be sent out to tell certain late comers not to come, the early bird definitely catches the first worm.

All in all it was a Treemendous job and once again the local residents of California Road, got some good vibrations from the GoodGym team. Role on March when 50 trees will need our assistance to be bedded in.
