Kingston Carnival

It's an event for the community to promote unity and celebrate cultures
It's an event that is organised by our Charity that gives our communities a much needed chance to come and enjoy the festival for the day. There is a procession which starts at 12 noon with Mas bands, drummers, entertainers and our community groups from different cultures. It starts at the Guildhall, does a loop through the town and back at the Guildhall, two stages with music, dance etc., children's area and food from different cultures. It's a non ticketed event and a family day out at little or no cost, just what is needed during these difficult times. It is done with very limited funding so rely a lot on volunteers who want to generously give back to their community.

8 GoodGymers have supported Kingston Carnival with 3 tasks.

It’s Kingston Carnival time!

Sunday 3rd September 2023

Written by Rachel White

What a great way to start a Sunday morning! Rachel, Petra and Andy met at The Guildhall by Kingston Market Place to decorate the trucks that were joining in the procession. We were given bags of material and decorations and we headed round the back to where the trucks were parked.

The Glendale trucks were flatbed trucks that were being loaded with music equipment to lead the carnival. It was important that these trucks were transformed to reflect the colour and high energy of the procession so we set to work.

We hung, we wrapped and we grip tied until we ran out of decorations. We even used a red Christmas tree to hide the boring signage at the back of the truck - sorry Santa! By the end of the task the trucks were transformed and they were certainly more in keeping with the vibe of the day.

To reward our efforts we popped to a local cafe for a sausage sandwich and a cuppa before heading to the next task at the Hogsmill. Petra headed off to airport and Rachel and Andy later bumped into each other at the festival - what a great day!

Welcome to GoodGym Andy - well done on achieving your first task.

Pimp my truck for Kingston Carnival

Sunday 4th September 2022

Written by Jane Yelloly

Well how could GoodGym resist Carnival and the opportunity to get pimping and jammin a truck rather than toast for Sunday breakfast!

Especially as Kingston Carnival was back after 2 years away due to Covid. The carnival brings together different local communities to experience a range of music and culture and food, in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Our task was simple - pimp the DJ truck with a variety of materials and decorations kindly donated by the community.

And razzle dazzle we were done! The council's Glendale truck pimped and transformed. We like to call it a fusion look to reflect Kingston's vibrant and diverse community of different cultures.
