Well done to everyone who joined us this morning, and a huge thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who make these events happen every week ๐Ÿซถ Here are our highlights from the event... ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: 94 juniors walked and ran two laps of Florence Park to complete their Sunday morning 2km. Add all those laps together, string them together in a long line, and that line will take you from Florence Park all the way north to Rosehill Victoria junior parkrun, where there were 25 finishers at their 101st event this morning ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Great job everyone! ๐—™๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: 9 juniors joined us at Florence Park juniors for the first time and for all of these juniors this marked the start of their parkrun journey โ€“ their first ever junior parkrun ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ Welcome to the parkrun family! ๐—ฃ๐—•๐˜€: 15 juniors achieved new personal best times ๐Ÿ† Great walking and running juniors! ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€: Five! Well done Austin - you did a brilliant job! ๐Ÿ“ฑ Phoebe joined us for the very first time at Florence Park juniors, where she's signed up to volunteer as part of her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Phoebe quickly got to grips with the parkrun Virtual Volunteer app too, which she used to scan barcodes at the finish area. Welcome Phoebe โ€“ we hope you enjoyed your first time volunteering! โญ Top Team award goes to our four Tail Walkers, Billy, Leila, Eike, and Artus, who got split up on the first lap when a junior fell over and needed some first aid. Eike and Artus kept an eye on the back of the pack until Billy and Leila caught them back up on lap two. Artus and Billy earned themselves both a volunteer credit and a junior parkrun towards their next wristband! Thank you all so much for your support. If you'd like to learn more about volunteering or get involved yourself, drop us an email at florenceparkjuniors@parkrun.com Thank you for your support ๐Ÿงก #loveparkrun

Junior parkrun Joy!

Sunday 12th November 2023

Written by Bethan Greenaway

A quartet of Goodgymers took in various roles at Florence Park Juniors this morning.

It was a little drizzly but the kids were in good spirits, especially after a warm up session of the Hokey Cokey led by Trev.

We then set off for a 10k trot around Oxford. An excellent way to start a Sunday!

Take a look below, starting with a lovely sunny photo album from Alex: ๐Ÿ“ธ https://photos.app.goo.gl/LvJRWSYLR2AyqpG26 ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: 64 juniors made the most of another beautifully sunny Sunday morning and made it round their two laps of Florence Park under their own steam, some with friends and family in tow, and others with adults waiting to cheer them in at the finish line ๐Ÿ‘ We counted at least 14 sets of siblings amongst the finishers - we love seeing the whole family get involved ๐Ÿ™Œ Well done everyone! ๐—™๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜ ๐˜๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€: 3 juniors joined us at Florence Park for their first ever junior parkrun on Sunday ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ Welcome to the parkrun family! ๐—ฃ๐—•๐˜€: 12 juniors achieved new personal best times ๐Ÿ”” Great walking and running juniors! ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€: One! Thanks to each and every one of you for your support... ๐Ÿ‘‹ Gill and Richard were visiting Oxford from their home of Newark and, not wanting to miss out on their junior parkrun fix (Dukeries juniors is their local event), joined us at Florence Park for what in the trade is called parkrun 'voluntourism' ๐ŸŒ Richard acted as our Tail Walker whilst Gill cheered juniors round the course as a marshal. Thank you so much both - it was lovely to meet you! ๐Ÿšถ It's not often we have enough volunteers to have a parkwalker. However, this week we were lucky enough to have a great turnout in hi-vis, so Lam donned the blue parkwalker bib to accompany those walking and make sure everyone feels included, however they choose to complete the course โœŒ๏ธ Juniors can volunteer as parkwalkers with their adults too - it's a great role for juniors who would prefer not to run and want to give their 2k a different focus ๐Ÿ™‚ Drop us an email if you and your junior(s) would like to give parkwalking a go! ๐ŸŽŠ Daisy made her parkrun volunteer debut with us on Sunday! We hope you enjoyed your morning Daisy โ˜บ๏ธ Thank you so much for your support. If you'd like to give volunteering a try, just drop us an email at florenceparkjuniors@parkrun.com with your parkrun barcode number ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Thank you for your support! How are we warming up next week? Another song and dance? See you at 8.55am on Sunday โฐ #loveparkrun

Going with the Hokey Cokey Flo!

Sunday 5th February 2023

Written by Ben Foster

On a surprisingly fresh morning, four Goodgymers put their best foot forward to help out at event number 103 for Florence Park Junior Parkrun.

In order to keep all the volunteers warm, Trev brought along his ukulele and instigated a complete rendition of the Hokey Cokey, complete with actions and lots of curious looks as people arrived in time for the start. Fashioning a vegetative hat, Trev also led the 1st timer's welcome for those coming along for their 1st parkrun or 1st parkun in Florence Park, of which there were several. Both Julia and Kieran clapped and cheered on super runners around the 2-lap course. Ben aided in the set up and led the event as the Run Director, armed with a whistle and first aid kit in case of any mishaps (thankfully, neither were required!).

70 youngsters completed the run and more wristbands handed out for those completing their half-marathon (11 junior parkruns) or marathon (21 junior parkruns). It was a super event and thankful for the efficient token sorting and clear up at the end to earn a warm cup of coffee.

Thanks to all those that helped out!!

Blowing off the Auld Lang cobwebs

Sunday 1st January 2023

Written by Ben Foster

Happy New Year!

7 eager Goodgymers brushed off the cobwebs from the night before to help out at Florence Park Junior Parkrun. With University Parks having a special New Year's Day 5 km run, it was all hands on deck for the skeleton crew of volunteers on a fresh and clear morning.

30 juniors made it around the 2 km course with many tourists visiting and a few regulars too. Bethan, Ruth, Trev and Julia were able marshals with tambourines, foam hands and cheery support encouraging the juniors around the course. Anwen was a lone barcode scanner and Kieran handed out finish tokens to the juniors who crossed the finish line. Trev also provided a first timers briefing for those visiting and Ben provided the main briefing as run director and led the warm up, which was certainly required to get the blood pumping on a colder morning!

Thank you to all those that helped out!
