Bags of fun and beautiful bluebells

Saturday 27th April

Written by Martin R

Today 8 goodgymers supported the Friends of Leagrave Park and Luton Borough Council with the monthly community litterpick. Despite the poor weather conditions, the team collected over 10 bags of rubbish 🗑 and covered a vast majority of the park. Whilst collecting in the woodland we came across some very pretty flowers on the river bank. Well done team, as ever you were all awesome.

No bobble, no trouble

Saturday 27th April

Written by Martin R

3 of Luton's Goodgymers fought through the miserable weather to weed and mulch some of the trees planted as part of the Peace Garden Initiative. We had no tools, but great resolve as we got stuck into the task. We soon had a nice pile of weeds to rehouse as instructed by LBC , under the nearby bushes and we managed to mulch 22 of the 40 trees. Rebecca and Gill were both very suprised to see me turn up to an outdoor task without, what they felt was an integral bit of my kit. I came out with one of my bobble hats. So although it has been joked about in the past, it would now appear that it is official and Martin is Luton Goodgyms "bobble hat guy" . Great work team 👏

Easter Saturday Superstars

Saturday 30th March

Written by Luton runner

A warm welcome today to Sheetal who returned for another litterpicking session at Leagrave Park but this time wearing her newly minted red Goodgym t-shirt. She was super keen to get stuck into the mission and arrived half an hour early ! Goodgym Luton came out in force on this fine sunny Saturday morning. Lizzy, Yasin, Musa and Tigger cycled to the task, Neil and Sheetal walked and we were joined by Rebecca who made her way from the other side of town to help us give Leagrave Park some love. And Leagrave Park loved us back ! Looking green and gorgeous in the Spring sunshine this mission was actually a nature walk with bonuses like seeing the first bluebells, listening to birdsong and strolling and chatting with friends of Leagrave Park as we walked. Kevin from ABCD kitted us all out with gloves and pickers for the usual crop of discards which today included three parts of a bicycle and an umbrella.

Plastic Fantastic

Saturday 24th February

Written by Martin R

12 Luton Goodgymers met up at Leagrave Park earlier today to help the FoLP with their monthly litterpick. It was great to have Felix and Louise with us for their second community mission and we welcomed Sheetal for her first. The team collected around 15 bags of rubbish and some other bits and bobs, including 2 large sheets of plastic that were fished out of the river. After the litterpick, some of the team headed to the local pret to get a coffee ☕️. This was a great task on a beautiful morning. Well done team Luton. 👏. Same agsin next month.

Can you dig it?

Saturday 27th January

Written by Martin R

Luton Parks department reached out to see if we could help to plant some Beech Tree's at Leagrave Park this morning, so 4 Goodgym luton Legends got out early before the scheduled litterpick and planted 14 tree's. There was some confusion over the area we needed to plant the tree's (and we might have planted a couple in the wrong spot) but we soon got stuck in and 45 minutes later the tree's were planted. It was fresh when we started but we all managed to warm up once the digging started. Well done you awesome bunch xx

Having a rubbish birthday

Saturday 27th January

Written by Martin R

Today 8 of Luton's Goodgym faithful joined the Friends of Leagrave Park and members of the local community for their 1st monthly community litterpick of the year. The team collected about 12 bags of rubbish and 2 of our team fished a shopping trolley 🛒 out of the river. At the end we all sang happy birthday to Alkesh who is 21 again this week, honestly. The birthday boy shared some savoury treats with everyone. The samosas, sausage rolls and dips really hit the spot. Well done team, you're all amazing
