A rakeโs progress is a series of paintings by William Hogarth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Rake%27s_Progress ) in which the protagonist descends into villainy and ultimately receives the worst possible comeuppance. Fortunately, the only things suffering death and dissection today had been the Christmas trees of the borough of Bexley and Good Gym was there to put the remains to use.
Having both completed the rather lovely Danson parkrun, two runners joined the friends of Danson Park for their monthly volunteer activity. Recent rains had left many of the paths through the park barely useable but four large piles of woodchips had been delivered to mitigate the problem. The volunteers split into two groups and both had the same aim: transfer the woodchip to wheelbarrows, take the wheelbarrows down the path to be emptied and rake the deposited woodchips along the path to create dry useable sections. As there were a lot of volunteers the piles were soon reduced from hills to minor bumps and before long a new wooden path was snaking through the woods for the local walkers and runners to take advantage of.

Our first task of the year and we were back with the Friends of Danson Park, spreading chippings along one of the woodland paths.
They say many hands make light work and with the regular volunteers we covered a lot of ground. There was even a group cheer when a walker and his dog were the first to tread along the newly laid path.
All that shovelling, wheelbarrowing and raking was a great workout. Afterwards there was a nice chat over coffee and biscuits. The perfect GoodGym way to spend a Saturday morning!
Congratulations Sandra on your first ever GoodGym event. It was lovely to have you with us.

On a very hot Saturday Liam got on his gardening gloves and headed out to Danson Parks Old English Gardens. His task was to get as many of the leaves that were sitting around making the flower beds and hedges look untidy, what a brilliant job he did ๏

This Saturday Nick headed down to Danson Park to help out with the Woodland Walk.
The team started with cutting back fresh growth along the path before shoveling ground bark chippings into wheel barrows and distribution it all along the woodlands walk.
The great thing about volunteering with the woodland team is you will always getting a lovely drink when you've finished. Perfick!! Well done Nick ๐๐ป
