What a lot of bottle!

Saturday 23rd March

Written by Rachel White

A solo mission to Fairfield Park to help rid the area of rubbish. Today I went to the playground over road and found sweet wrappers and fast food cartons. I then walked round the park on the outside pavement collecting wrappers and bottles along the fence. It didn't take long to fill a bag of rubbish which i took back to Suzanne to sort for recycling.

Get fitter picking litter

Saturday 13th January

Written by Rachel White

Today's task took us to Fairfield Park where we joined Suzanne and her team of local residents to give the area a thoroughly good litter pick. There was a great sign up due to the January Challenge and we welcomed four new GoodGymers to their first community mission - hello Kathryn, Eleanor, Charlotte and Adam!

It was a great day for a walk, fresh but not too cold if we kept moving, and in our small groups we lapped the park inside and outside the boundary line - meeting for an impromptu chat when we met half way.

We found all sorts of weird and random bits of rubbish - half an umbrella, vapes, bottles stuffed into hedges and countless cigarette butts. Lots of small bits but it filled the rubbish bags we carried way too quickly.

We whiled the hour away chatting and playing with the litter pickers and soon it was time to pack up and go.

A great task - we'll head over for the next one so look out in the calendar for the next session.

What a load of rubbish!

Saturday 11th November 2023

Written by Rachel White

Rachel, Dave and Samia went to Fairfield Park to help with the litter pick. Rachel helped Suzanne on the stall welcoming small groups of people who had arrived to help and handing out litter pickers and hand sanitizer.

Dave and Samia did the brunt of the work and picked up rubbish from the perimeter of the park.

Lots of nasty items were removed and bagged up and the park looks so much better for the tidy up.

Puppy power!

Saturday 16th September 2023

Written by Rachel White

We had a great sesh today in Fairfield Park doing a spot of litter picking. For Rachel and Doris it was their second session of the day having popped home for some lunch after a visit to sort donations at the British Heart Foundation shop.

It was hot and humid so we mostly stayed in the trees for the shade and picked up bottle tops, glass bottles, sweet wrappers and newspapers. We did a full hour, filled a couple of bags with rubbish and met Andy on the way back to the organiser's table. He had brought his daughter and her friend, and a lovely dog called Luna. We all gave Luna some much deserved attention for being such a good dog and had a chat with Suzanne about future projects in the pipeline. Keep an eye on the calender!

Rubbish rain and litter picking

Saturday 22nd July 2023

Written by Rachel White

The rain lashed down yesterday afternoon but that didn't stop Steph Ducat, Doris and Rachel from meeting in the park to help pick up rubbish in Fairfield Park.

Steph had cycled all the way down from Hayes, taking the scenic route through Richmond Park, and wasn't going to let getting damp prevent him him from completing the task.

We went round the edge of park mostly under the trees to keep the worst of the rain off with our bags and litter pickers.

Doris and Rachel did a double task that day having visted Canbury Community Gardens in the morning in much better weather!

Great task and well done for getting out in the rain.

Grab a bit of litter

Saturday 13th May 2023

Written by Rachel White

Great afternoon spent catching up with Kate, Rob and Rosanna on a litter pick round Fairfield Park. They had a great turn out so we concentrated on grabbing the smaller bits of rubbish that can get overlooked and managed to fill a bag between us. Well done team!
