๐Ÿ‘‘ Kinging in the rain โ˜”๏ธ

Monday 8th May 2023

Written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)

โ˜”๏ธ 7 incredibly dedicated GoodGymmers gathered on a rainy (coronation) bank holiday Monday evening for this eveningโ€™s group run. We were thrilled to welcome Sheila for her first group room and Dan for his first since 2019 ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐ŸŒณ I was also able to share some incredibly exciting news about a Tiny Forest that weโ€™re hoping to get started soon, having just had a meeting about it.

๐Ÿ“œ Anyway, on to the task (literally) in hand, which was leafletting for the Community Furniture Store. Theyโ€™d left an incredibly hefty box of leaflets for us to distribute to various studenty locations across the city ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽ“

3๏ธโƒฃ We split into three groups:

๐ŸŽ’ Abigail, Martin and Sheila covered the city centre and walked an impressive almost 4 miles, with somewhat mixed luck as some accommodation blocks (apparently the fancier ones) declined their kind offer of leaflets. Abigail and Sheila managed to offer theirs out whilst Martin kindly carried the spares in his backpack.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Lucy and Jenna jogged east to Tang Hall and also had somewhat mixed luck, more related to some possibly incorrect addresses that had been provided.

๐Ÿ“š Dan and I headed towards York University, where we left lots at the Information Centre (though sadly had less luck at the library). We also stopped at various places on the way there and back.

๐Ÿ˜ It stopped raining eventually and we gathered back at CVS, soggy but (impressively) still smiling! And full of ideas of where to distribute the remaining leaflets.

๐Ÿ‘ Incredible work everyone, leafletting on a rainy bank holiday evening may not be everyoneโ€™s idea of fun so youโ€™re absolute troopers ๐Ÿ’ช

Flyer like an Eagle

Monday 13th February 2023

Written by Ed Woollard (He/Him)

A surprisingly decent turn out for a chilly Monday evening of leaflet dropping. The promise of seeing York Minster illuminations probably brining more people out than expected. The night started with Tristan donning the Cape of Good Deeds in honour of his 100th session and a quick bit of numbering off whilst naming your favourite flying thing.

We split off into 3 groups. A longer run heading to Hull Road led by James and Nikki, a mid distance led by Ed and a shorter route led by Nick. The aim being to get rid of all your leaflets before getting back to the Minster at the very specific time of 7.35 for a bit of fitness. Mitch led a small walking group which joined up with Nick's team.

Many letterboxes were stuffed and there was only a small bit of double dropping when the longer running group overlapped with the middle distance runners. There were also reports of a lost wife from Rich but no major concerns and we counted every one back at the Minster for a team photo in front of the fancy lights (apologies for my head blocking a few people in the photo!).

We then headed round to the front of the Minster for a Rock, Paper, Scissors throw down with the winner picking the exercise for the rest of the group. Martin started off rather cruelly with press-ups but was swiftly defeated by Lucy who went on an impressive winning streak, effectively leading the fitness session by choosing all of the exercises! However, Jenna was the eventual winner and holds the title of GG York Rock, Paper, Scissors champion ๐Ÿ†

Fortunately for all Nicky W will be back next week!
