A community-led cleanup turning a neglected alley into a safer, cleaner space with murals and paintings.
My project “Alive the Alleyway” aims to transform a neglected, fly-tipped alleyway into a vibrant, safe, and active community space. Currently, the area is a health hazard filled with mattresses and broken furniture. By clearing this debris and applying interactive "street art," we will turn a "no-go zone" into a place for play, exercise, and neighbourhood pride. This is important to me because of how this alley attracts drug users, smokers and other bad influenced people, especially being in an area where there are a lot of kids, it creates a bad influence and a bad image on SO14. This will be a 4 day community event where on the first 2 days we will be clearing the big heavy items i.e mattresses and broken furniture where we will need the community as well as volunteers who are willing to help clearing this. On the next 2 days we will get the community to clean up the small bits of rubbish and clearing overgrown plants so they get some involvement, but also at the end to paint the alley walls with colours, making the alleyway alive again, with food and music.
