That's when good neighbours become goodgym

Saturday 2nd March 2019

Written by Daniel Ketton

Mr H has been in need of having a home in a liveable state, living without heating and electric for almost a decade. With the help of Gilly, Caroline, Sioned, Andrew, Daiana, Rachel, James, and Daniel, his house was cleared so heating and electric can be fitted next week. Joined by Sarah from Age UK Sheffield and Mr H’s neighbour, Debbie, we split into teams per room and moved furniture so carpets could be pulled out and cleared into a skip. Once completed, we made a start on clearing Mr H’a garden with a bonfire.

Leaf 'n' let Die...

Monday 28th January 2019

Written by Tom Mutton

It was back to college for @GGSHEFF as we met SENSATIONAL STEVE CHU of Age UK Sheffield at Sheffield college for tonights task of delivering the Age UK 'Keep Warm' leaflet around targeted areas of the city.

Before we set off we had a huge cheers for SUZE & SARAH who have both reach a massive 100 good deeds, huge congrats to you both!

We heard the brief from Steve telling us how the leaflet would inform elderly people in the area of the services available to them over the winter to help keep them warm such as free at home energy checks to ensure their homes are as warm as they can be over the winter months.

We split into 5 teams each armed with leaflets and a map of a specific area and got straight to it, we were off to a flyer....

The only way was up to begin with as the teams headed off up Granville Rd to their set destinations, we were flyering high...

After a good session we met back at the college for 7:45 and did a quick headcount to ensure we had everyone before heading over the road to the South St Park for some TRIPPLE TROUBLE fitness.

This weeks fitness session was leg focused and consisted of three different exercises using the parks assets to our advantage;

  1. Stair lunges - Taking two stairs at a time to lunge up and work on opening the hips.
  2. Stair quicksteps - Hitting each step with quick feet and driving the arms for momentum as soon as no 1 was over.
  3. Downhill recovery - Jogging back down hill to bottom of stair set 1 to recover.

Following the above we headed home with some additional stair sets by the fountains to gather the group before heading over the road for some stretching to finish.

Thanks to everyone for coming along and helping with delivering the flyers and hope to see you all next week where we will be helping SUSTRANS with the National Cycle Network.

Until then, happy running :)
