Wayne, 41, joined GoodGym Woking back in October 2017. Since then his fitness has increased dramatically and he has seen lots of improvements in his running.

“When I started, my running was not very good” he explains. “By doing weekly runs with GoodGym and the consistency, as well as doing deeds within the community, I’ve got myself much fitter over time.”

He began entering races and has since completed both 10k and 15k runs.

“The way I feel has improved greatly” he says. “My overall fitness has improved as well as my mental health, especially over lockdown. Even though we couldn’t get out we did a number of zoom boot camps and quizzes.”

Wednesdays are Wayne’s favourite day of the week.

He explains: “We have a great team here in Woking and I look forward to a Wednesday each week, as I know I’m going to be meeting new people and also carry out a task that will benefit and help someone.” He continues: “Over this crazy year we have helped our local food bank as well as tidying up and maintaining allotments, all while keeping ourselves fit and healthy.”

His most memorable mission was helping at Brockhill Care Home before the first lockdown last March. “We ran to the care home and carried out painting and gardening tasks” he remembers “the residents are always grateful and love a chat, that stands out for me.”

“Having something to look forward to and commit to regularly helps me to improve my running fitness” he points out “it’s good all-round.”
