Cats and (Dande)Lions !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

What a beautiful Spring evening to be heading out on our Lambetrh Group Run! It was gloriously bright and sunny but with a chill in the air - perfect running conditions - and many GGers were seeing each other in natural light for the first time!!

A warm welcome to James who was joining a Group Run for the first time, it was lovely to have you with us and another great addition to the Lambeth community! It was also lovely to have Task Force star Sarah back after a period away having been very unwell - we are glad to have you back. Lastly Aimee thanks for venturing out to meet us after your HIIT session, your glasses didn't impair your weed picking in the slightest!

Tonight's category controversy was around pizza toppings where the consensus was that burgers should not be found anywhere near them.

Tonight we were heading back to the Weir Link to help out Lizzie who had left us some hand tools and bags to clear away the weeds around the front of the centre. Despite the task name it was in fact the Dandelions we came to clear not the Daffodils, don't panic folks, no daffs were harmed during the making of this task!

It's a 2 mile each way run so a challenging but manageable distance for this group and luckily it's slightly uphill on the way out meaning a coast downhill heading back.

The team made a decent dent in the work with (Good) Jim looking on - see pics - split between those with hand tools digging up roots and the rest pulling up the weeds by hand. With the central section cleared and a good stretch of border also done it was tome to head home.

There was time for one last pizza based bit of trivia from Kaz who shared a New Zealand delicacy (?!) of pizza base with canned spaghetti on top..... The less said the better I think ;0)

On arrival back at Papa's a handsome ginger moggy decided to join in the session and came stealthily into the hall - thanks Michael for ushering him back out so we could lock up and head home!

Thanks everyone and see you at the next one !!

Newt we can do about that

Lambeth Report written by Lambeth runner

6 awesome GoodGym-mers met with the lovely Tom at Hillside Gardens on this lovely sunny Saturday morning and we all split into pairs to get some jobs done. These included weeding around the gooseberry bushes then laying down woodchip, loading up wheelbarrow loads of woodchip for the allotment path, pruning down some dying shrubs that were showing little signs of life at the bases :) and enjoying a cup of tea and double decker bars that Tom kindly offered to us. We also found a Newt, who we named Nigel. He was hiding behind the weeds on the wall, and was very cute. We left him be and covered him up with some leaves to give him back some privacy. All in all a great session - thanks to those who came !

Victoria is part of a crowd that's making a huge noise. Victoria has been cheered by 25 people - that's a round of applause just on their own. We hope they keep it up.

Off to a Flying Art !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

And so last night we were back helping out Blind Aid with a painting task! I'll keep this report (thankfully) brief as this was the second in a series of 3 tasks to get this job done.

Let's start with welcoming Ali to her first GG Group Run, great to have you with us Ali!! And also a very warm welcome back to Magda who has been away dealing with injuries but was back for the first time in ages last night and we were delighted to see her with us!

This evening's category was 'things you find in a teacher's draw' with bonus points for Ali's evocative Blue Tack with random staples and fluff example.

It's a short run over to the task which is good as we needed all the time we could get and the main challenge this evening was how to get 11 of us into a very small space - don't ask how we managed but think of Clown Cars at the circus meets Tetris and you have some idea.

In Team 1 inside the main room Frances showed uncanny skill with the masking tape, as did Lindy on the fine brush work followed by heavy roller while Magda is clearly not to be messed with seeing as how she tapped down the dust sheets like a professional...... Team 2 on corridor duty saw Michael wielding a threatening looking mini roller, Paul painting as much wall as fairy lights and Marie-Noelle who was official washer-upper and paint distributer.

We had more rollers, more brushes, lots of paint, No More Nails and masking tape so we made the best of it all and by the end we had done a very big chunk of what needed doing. Prizes go to Katie for having the most paint on herself, Vicky for agreeing to take the rollers home to wash and Clare for ensuring we didn't wander off in the wrong direction on our way home!

Well done everyone, one more session to go and we can look back proudly on our work - have a great week all!

Like the Norse god we will be 'Thor' Tomorrow.....

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Given the weather conditions last night and the snow covered landscape in the morning I decided to go with a suitably Nordic pun for our report - please send complaints to badpunsonrunreports@goodgym.run !!

Anyway, we had a group of 9 signed up last night which began to whittle itself down as the evening approached and by launch time we had 5 hardy souls ready for a short run and a heavy task. As ever we start with our newest member and we were delighted to welcome Emma who is a former Oxford GGer and now down in London and part of our Lambeth family, it was great to have you with us!

(Category this evening - things with buttons! Coraline by Vicky was our clear winner)

Frances' wish to improve her arm strength was about to be rewarded this evening as we were back helping out our friend James aka Father Nature to remove over 2 tonnes of soil which was going to be spread across Eden Gardens and other worthwhile places such as local schools.

Since we were last at the house the big bags had been packed into small 20-30kg bags and so all that was left to do was to lift-run-drop-repeat them onto the milk float, all under the watchful eyes of the beautiful Callypso the owners' long haired sausage dog! Despite Tilly's self confessed preference for cats we could see that Callypso could tell an animal lover and took a particular shine to her.

It was cold - we couldn't feel our fingers -it was heavy work - but our arms got stronger - it was quick - but that's ok we made a difference. After 25 mins we were done and the tonnes of soil was now ready to go and be delivered where it was needed.

Thanks everybody - I look forward to seeing you next week!
