Litter pick with added tree

Tue 11 Jan
Report written by Paul Bonner

Paul ran round the park to assess the litter situation, minimal, but Safety Simon was called... and we got to work on the small patch of litter found. The run found another task though, a tree that had fallen and needed chopping. Simon of course had a couple of pairs of new pruners in his boot. Legend. Bonus task done.

Litter Picking at Lydiard Park 🌳

Tue 11 Jan 18:00 pm
West Swindon Library, Whitehill Way, Swindon, SN5 7DL
To help clear up our green spaces in Swindon

Lydiard Park, one of our favourite country parks, and home to one of our parkruns, needs some TLC this winter. Our job is to do some litter picking while having a good old chin wag!

Please consider the following:

  • To bring a litter grabber* and a bin bag if you have these

  • To bring hand sanitiser and/or antibacterial wipes

  • To wear your own gloves

We will be meeting at 6pm just outside West Swindon Library*; just look out for us in the red and black GoodGym tops!

Please note: This Group Run is Walkable, meaning that there will be one group of Walkers leaving West Swindon Library just after 6pm (led by a Task Force Member) and a second group of Runners leaving West Swindon Library at around 6:10pm (led by a Run Leader). Please also be aware that GoodGym runs are suitable for runners of all abilities. All our runs are backmarked and we never leave anyone behind.

*Please look out for our Run Leader, Paul who will meet you all outside West Swindon Library.

Please note that for the time being, our Group Runs will start in various outdoor locations meaning that lockers, toilets and refreshment facilities may not be available before and after the Group Run. We hope that this will change in the future and that at some point soon we can return to a regular meeting point with facilities. For the meantime let's just enjoy meeting up again - we have a lot to catch up on 😊

Delivering 'Light up a Life' 🕯 Celebration Packs for the Prospect Hospice - From Saturday 4th December to Saturday 11th December

Sat 11 Dec

We have been asked to deliver Light up a Life service packs on behalf of the Prospect Hospice. Similar to last year, because of COVID-19 restrictions, this year's Light up a Life celebration will take place online rather than in the grounds of the hospice on Sunday 12th December at 4:30pm.

The service will keep many of the traditions that those who have been attending over the years will be familiar with, including readings, carols, the procession of lantern bearers and the important lighting of the Light up a Life candle 🕯 as we remember those special people in our lives.

For those who make a donation to the hospice as part of the Light up a Life appeal, the hospice is also offering a service pack, which includes a candle, order of service and a star tag to hang up at home. Our job is to deliver these packs in the week leading up to the event so that those attending will have a very similar experience as they have done in previous years.

Simon has already collected the packs from the Prospect and put them into postcode areas ready for distribution to Team GG Swindon from Saturday 4th December. Please sign up and make a comment below as to which area you are able to deliver to:

  • SN1
  • SN2
  • SN3 including Stratton St Margaret, Covingham, the Parks, Eldene and Liden
  • SN4 including Wroughton, Broad Hinton, Wanborough and Royal Wootton Bassett
  • SN5
  • SN6
  • SN25

Packs can be collected from Emma at Lydiard parkrun on Saturday 4th December; please message me directly via WhatsApp or email at emma.s@goodgym.org if you cannot collect at that time. Packs can then be delivered to residents from Saturday 4th December to Saturday 11th December.

Thank you 😊 Your help is very much appreciated as without these packs, this event wouldn't be able to go ahead as planned.

Flying by the seats of our pants

Sun 7 Nov
Report written by Swindon runner

We used group runs and individual missions to deliver important cash collection envelopes on behalf of our local Prospect Hospice to Swindon & the surrounding suburbs. These envelopes are vital in raising much needed funds. Please give our Sam a lot of 'eewws and aahhs' for the injuries sustained whilst tumbling off her bike during this mission.
