Booking a sandwich feast

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

14 cheerful GoodGymers ran 6k to help One Big Family helping the homeless charity in Victoria.

A massively important evening of volunteering complete!! With 2 of the 4 volunteers from the charity unable to help with the evening’s food preparation and distribution GoodGym made a massive impact making all the sandwiches ready to be handed out to Westminster’s homeless.

With freezing temperatures Westminster’s most venerable needed that helping hand more than ever and was great to see a top group able to really impact.

A 3k run weaving South expertly lead by Rhys and Frances to One Big Family Victoria. Splitting into 3 groups we had the Vegetarian sandwich makes producing Cheese and falafel sandwiches. Which the Chicken sandwich production line was in full flow and the final group had the mission of moving 200 big books up 4 floors of stairs to be cataloged.

150 sandwiches made, bagged and packed. 200 booked lifted, shifted and stacked in 35 productive minutes!!

A swift 3k run back to base rounded off a fun filled December evening.

Thanks to Danny for the extra pictures!!

Hope to see next week for our Mince Pie Run and Social

Block Party!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

12 GoodGymers tackled a 7.5k run down to Pimlico to deliver 350 leaflets for Open Age Charity.

Great to have you all along this evening!!

Unfortunately I couldn’t rustle up a Christmas task after much trying but we did have a task to warmup the Winter spirts of Westminster’s older population!!

Open Age are a charity which facilitates activities for the over 50’s , this week we were helping them promote their heavily subsidised Fitness class in the local sports centre.

A longer than normal run with not too many stops had us working hard as we navigated South to huge the Chuch Hill Estate. 3.75k in the bag and we had arrived. Splitting into small groups we took batches of leaflets and got delivering.

Flying around the estate, up and down the blocks stairs at super speed the 350 leaflets stood no chance!! All delivered across 12 blocks in 25 minutes of delivering excellence!!

With the job done we powered back to base with a Spring in our step adding a little more pace to up that heart rate nicely!

A stretch out and smile to finish a productive and and fun session!!

Next week we are off to One Big Family to make up he food donations to be served out to the homeless community!!

Remember the 19th will be our last run of the year and we will be doing a Mince Pie Run to Central London’s. Followed by a social! Be great to have you along.

It’s a Knock Out!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

13 Brave GoodGymers took on the might of St Andrews Youth Club in the Games 3!!

After a year of volunteering with the amazing St Andrews Youth Club. Helping them out with a range of crazy clear up projects it was time for our mini celebration/ get to know the members.

There is one thing to do our great physical volunteering helping out the entirely donation run Youth Club but The Games allows us to mix and get to know some of the hundreds of the Clubs members. Breaking down a few integration barriers and having fun doing so.

Probably the hardest physical challenge in all of GoodGym is Kinball!! And battling against and with a swarm of energetic young people the work out was intense and the sweat rate through the roof!!

Who needs a gym was the call after our epic Kinball matches, where GoodGym takes a 2-1 lead in the titanic battle!

To finish off the activities we had 3 highly entertaining Sumo Suit battles. Great effort from everyone who took part!! A really tough series off battles.

A quick run back to base, stretch out and we were away!

Thank you all for coming along and hope you all enjoyed the session.

No shivers by the River!!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

15 battle hardened Westminster GoodGymers battled the start of Winter by running 7k to Little Venice and start out canal path clear up!

** News** Do forget next week is the St Andrew Youth Club Games!! We will be battling in a range of activities with the oldest youth club in the world! We need you so please come along!

The GoodGym Christmas party is around the corner on the 1st of December in Burgess Park. Fun and frolics all round so come along!

With a need to get warm we started fast and got our blood pumping to our extremities! We powered our way 3.5km to Little Venice in the North West of the Borough.

It was our first trip with our partnership with the Canal and River trust to adopt a section of Canal path. We were fully stocked up with kit!! Grabbers, gloves, buckets and hand sanitiser on the ready in our new swish locked mini shed.

After a couple of key wriggles we were in, geared up and out picking to our hearts content!

Filling the buckets at a pace, finding the weird and wonderful that had been left on the Canal path. Super importantly keeping the bad stuff out of the water system!!

25 minutes of picking action yielded success and we filled every bucket before a quick tip out, tidy up and lock up.

Zipping back to Oxford Street we battled hard to maintain pace over a longer than our usual distance, great job with your running!!

A blast of warmth back at New Balance helped to thaw us out for our journeys home!

Thanks for coming along!!

See you next week

Smooth Running

Joel
