Go and give Max a cheer for getting on his bike and getting to the Community Mission yesterday despite suffering with some pretty awful vaccine side effects. Talk about taking one for the team!
Max, Neil and Sara completed a busy hour at East End Women foodbank where they helped to build, assemble and stock the shelves ready for the new deliveries. Its amazing to see how this charity has really stepped up to a difficult challenge and we are really proud to be part of it.

Weekly task with East End Women food bank: Wednesday bonus!

East End Women is a Community Programme that helps Women in the North East to achieve their potential.
Each week they deliver over 1 TONNE of food to local people in Walker which is amazing! This is equivalent to 2520 meals.
This task is a lift and shift job as we move and pack around 50 bags into the vans and cars of other volunteers.

1 potato, 2 potato...
It was great to be back helping out at the East End Women food bank. It was a few months since I had been and every time I visit to help, it seems to grow so much in size and amazing organisation/co-ordination.
It was lovely to have some warmer weather finally (I have Brittle Bones, so icy weather and snow doesn't go very well together!) It was a relief that it was lovely and sunny and so I cycled across from Gateshead along the Tyne.
It was a great afternoon with Anji and Sara also helping. Myself and Sara helped with carrying bags out to the drivers, ready to be delivered. We also helped to organise and tidy up lots of tins and packaging.
Anji was busy with packing up different fruits and vegetables, so that they were ready for delivery and I joined in towards the end to lend a hand.

Snow stoppin us now
I had to make a last minute (ok two days ago) u-turn out of the community mission today to have a chat with a reporter who wants to write a piece about the goodness of GoodGym Newcastle but thankfully Max and Sara were there to get the job done.
Max ran to and from the mission today showing there is sNOw stopping him while new GGer Sara was back for her second Wednesday in a row.
Unlike our usual Wednesdays, there was no car packing today just getting food parcels ready for the big delivery day tomorrow. Another brilliant hour snowballed in to the week!

Sara completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sara was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Sara is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

Rain drops keep falling on our veg
Biblical weather by the Tyne could not dampen our brilliant Wednesday visit to help out at East End Women foodbank!
I arrived first to find yet again regular foodbank staff (and complete angels) Sarah and Fiona had already prepared five sets of deliveries ready to be packed into vans. I tasked regular GGer Max to be the car packer today while I grumble through a shonky knee.
New GG runner Sara arrived just after we had started and happily got straight into packing bags- they needed us to make a strong start ahead of 81 food parcel collections tomorrow. Sara is a student in Newcastle and can't wait for GoodGym to get back to Group Running so she can get to know the wider group.
As always we battled through the rain, only dampening a few bags of groceries and definitely not our enthusiasm.
There are two visits booked in for next week so get involved if you can. You won't courgette it!
