HiiT and Run!

Mon 24 Jan
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

Six Brent Goodgym-ers met on Monday night, for a training session led by Liz . It was freeeeeezing when we met so we jumped straight into our warm up then sped off for a four KM loop of the local area...making sure to put our strava's on as all the miles count towards the January challenge. Once back we caught our breath and then had a HiiT session consisting of 40 seconds of exercise, followed by 20 seconds rest ..the activities loosely described as
- Cross knee to elbows -Skaters - Punching sumo squats - Starjumps - Standing Supermen

Two rounds of HIIT hit us hard, so we cooled down with some stretches, then warmed up again with a nice drink at Papagayo.

This week's task will be on Wednesday at TRAID where they are keen for volunteers to help pack away their sale stock and clean up. You can sign up here: https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/traid-shop-clothes-sort-and-clean-a8c33bb9-3413-4853-b887-149c131ccc8c

Weeding in the darkness

Mon 17 Jan
Report written by Liz James

We met on a cold, dark January evening outside Papagayo cafe. Some GG spirit was bound to cheer everyone.

We started the evening with a short warm-up. Liz led the way, whilst Lee back-marked, ensuring nobody got lost in the darkness.

We were greeted by Gill, who explained the task for the evening, clearing the weeds from the footpath. Equipped with tools and head torches, we soon removed the weeds and left GG joy.

We returned to Papagayo for mulled wine, chips, cake and most importantly, good conversation!

We’d weed!

Mon 6 Dec
Report written by Liz James

We met outside Papagayo for a short warm-up before we ran to Cricklewood. We were greeted by Marie. Her instructions were for some people to 'weed', for others to clean up after they had 'weed' and for others to spray the roots once the weeding had been completed.

We were given tools and quickly set to work. Before long, it was time for our weekly photo shoot!

There was lots of time remaining, so Liz lead a HITT fitness session.
- Knee to elbow jumps - Squat jumps - Star jumps - Squat punches - Skatters Two rounds, then it was time to run back to Papagayo.

Time to clean

Mon 8 Nov
Report written by Liz James

This evening we met at Papagayo cafe. Liz gave a short intro speech, including news that Lee has organised a Christmas social for us on Wednesday 1st December!

Tabitha and Samina began their walk to the task, while the rest of the team participated in an extra long warm-up.

We arrived at the task at about the same time. Helen and CJ set to work cleaning the toilet floor. Meanwhile, the rest of the team set to work cleaning work tops, cupboards and fridges.

Danny, Tabitha and Samina stayed a little longer at the task, cleaning the floor. The rest of the team headed to St Peter's Avenue for some hill sprints.

The team arrived back at Papagayo Cafe for drinks, chips and cake.

Well done team!

Lock, stock and two smoking space hoppers!

Mon 18 Oct
Report written by Liz James

We met outside Papagayo cafe on a rainy Monday evening. A big welcome to Monica, who joined a GG run for the first time. Liz gave a short intro, followed by a quick warm-up and then we were ready to run!

We quickly reached Mora primary school. Our first challenge was the lock! Everyone took their turn to try to unlock the door, until Tabitha succeeded!! Our second task was stock! We took all of the equipment out of the cupboard, sorted it and then put it back very tidily. Our third 'task' was to pose for photographs with the space hoppers. Monica and Liz were very quick to volunteer for that task!

Once the tasks were completed, we started the run back to the cafe for some cool down stretches.

Let's hope we get 'Mora' tasks at the school!

We just love going to school here in GG Brent. This time we are back to Mora Primary to help sort what seems like a cupboard of doom. We've been here before but this time it is their outdoor cupboard! It may require a few goes so let's get down there and see how much we can get done! It's about 3km each way and do bring headtorches if you can!

We be meeting outside Papagayo cafe on the High Street as the Queensbury is still closed. You can still leave bags and coats but the run leaders or Taskforce will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside!
