GG Brent - Abbey Community leaflet delivery (and gardening...maybe!)

Mon 27 Jun

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN UP - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP HERE

*We are back to Abbey Community centre - where this time we do have leaflets to deliver! We may also need to help with some work in their garden but this is weather dependent. Please do join, for a 3.5km run each way, all at a manageable pace and no one is left behind! *

We're still at Papagayo Cafe - we can leave bags but the run leaders or Taskforce will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside! Please try to minimise what you bring.

Clean sweep

Mon 20 Jun
Report written by Liz James

Eight enthusiastic GGs met outside the cafe for a super quick warm-up. The team then set off for Citterhouse Farm.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by John, Anika and Lee and quickly set to work. Karen, Lee, Pete, Roberto, Sam and Samina began sweeping to ensure the ground was clean prior to the event on Saturday. Helen and Tabitha began the never ending task of watering. Liz built a bamboo frame for the sweet peas to climb.

Once the ground was spotless, the team began the run back to base for a beverage.

This week we head down to Abbey Community Centre. This local community centre provides all kinds of sessions and activities and is vital for the community around it. We'll be helping to distribute leaflets so local residents are aware of the services the centre offers. It's a slightly longer run, just under 4km each way but remember no one is left behind and we'll go at a pace that works for all.

We're still at Papagayo Cafe - we can leave bags but the run leaders or Taskforce will help with this to prevent any unnecessary congregation inside! Please try to minimise what you bring.

Junk modelling

Mon 6 Jun
Report written by Liz James

The famous 5 met outside Papagayo cafe on Monday evening. After a quick warm-up, the group sprinted to school.

At school they found a very untidy cupboard. The cupboard was full of junk including plastic bottles, boxes and kitchen roll holders, for the children to make models from. The famous five set to work stacking boxes, matching items to put into storage boxes and folding clothes. Tabitha even cleaned mouse droppings away! The room soon became a 'model' of how all school cupboards should look.

The group ran back to base for a round robin of stretches.

The Head Teacher was very happy with the 'model' GG team who had set an example of how the cupboard should look. Well done team!!

Speed dating

Mon 30 May
Report written by Liz James

Helen, Liz, Pete, Samina and Tabitha met outside Papagayo on a chilly Monday evening. There was a quick warm-up before they set off on their way.

Sam and Roberto joined them at the task, where Leslie greeted the team. The task this evening was speed dating! The team wrote the best before dates in marker pen onto as many items as possible. Items which were out of date were placed into a separate box. Before long, time was up and the team ran back to Papagayo.

At the cafe, there were pizzas, chips and cocktails. The team thanked Helen for being an important member of GG Brent, for all of the tasks which she has completed. We all wish Helen and Zach the best for the future! Goodbye Helen. You will be missed!

Weed all About It!

Mon 23 May
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

Samina, Liz, Tabitha, Pete and Sabina all met at Papagayo to start the goodgym group run to go to Clitterhouse for gardening.

We had the usual hello chatter, "how was your week", "isn't this weather weird", "let's hope it stops raining". When we had all arrived we started the warm up.

We tied the pumpkin plants to stalks at Clitterhouse farm, then ran back to our favourite haunt.

Tabitha pulled weeds with confidence, some were more stubborn than others but had success in the end. Samina and Becka were there too

Pete and Liz were required for manual labour and weight lifting. Their tast was to move building rubbish out of sight ready for the cafe opening. There were also two extremely heavy crates to move. This was followed by weeding and sweeping.

Samina and Helen were busy "staking their claim" on the corn crop.

No more floppy stems

after expert tying to bamboo poles

and Liz and Pete did some marvelous weeding

The weeding job was very tricky, a full body work out standing up and pulling from the roots. After 30 minutes we had made a great difference but sadly were not able to remove them all...but will return soon we are sure.

We ran back to the pub for some group stretching exercises, then into our favourite pub for our usual weekly drinks.

Rebecca arrived...and everyone rejoiced

We had a round robin for the cool down stretches, followed by...

Pete and Helen had a sprint for the finish- with Pete the clear victor. After a round of stretches, we called it a night and retreated to Papagayo for a well deserved beverage.

Cheers Team Brent!
