‘Needle’ Little Help From Our Friends

Fri 22 Jan
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Yesterday, 4 fabulous GoodGym members went along to support the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine programme in Crewe.

Their role was to marshal the car park and guide patients as they arrived for their vaccines, which they did with a smile despite it being so cold.

Once again, some of the most vulnerable and elderly people from our community arrived for their vaccines and it was our job to guide and assist them into car parking spaces and into the building, offering assistance where needed.

Once again, it was an honour and privilege to be involved in something of this magnitude and something so vital.

Well done GG Crewe. You’re all Community Heroes!! ❤️

Marshaling as Patients Arrive for their COVID-19 Vaccinations in Crewe

Fri 22 Jan 08:30 am
Buckingham Apollo Site, Old MMU Campus, CREWE, CW1 5DU
The COVID-19 vaccine will hopefully mark the beginning of the end of COVID and stop the loss of more lives.

As Crewe embarks on rolling out the national COVID-19 vaccination programme, Goodgym have been enlisted to help with marshaling in the car park as patients arrive for their vaccinations. Once again, this session will see the vaccine administered to the elderly and most vulnerable patients in our area.

It will be our job to guide cars into the parking spaces and then signpost the patients from the front door to the vaccination pods. Once vaccinated, it will be guiding patients to the 15 min waiting area , then the exit and possibly assisting patients back to their car.

It will be outdoors, so wrap up warm. PPE and high viz vests will be provided. We have been asked to arrive half an hour before the vaccinations actually start and this has been taken into account on the start time listed.

Going forward, volunteers may have the opportunity to take on other roles such as immunising.

I think this is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in such a huge national effort.

*** With the highly important nature of this task, please don't sign up for it unless you are certain you can commit. Thank you***

Injecting Joy Despite the Rain!

Thu 14 Jan
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Last Thursday, 2 amazing members braved hours in the pouring rain to support the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine programme in Crewe.

Their role was to marshal the car park and guide patients as they arrived for their vaccines, which they did with a smile despite being rained upon!

Once again, some of the most vulnerable and elderly people from our community arrived for their injections and it was Maurice & Rob’s job to guide and assist them into car parking spaces and into the building.

Once again, it was an honour and privilege to be involved in something of this magnitude. Rob and Maurice both really enjoyed the opportunity and I know they’ll be back for more (in fact, I think they’ve already signed up!).

Well done to you both. You’re Community Heroes!! ❤️

All Set For The Turkey ‘Din-er’

Tue 15 Dec
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Tonight saw 9 fabulous members back at The Lighthouse Centre. We always love being there with Pastor David and Paul.

We had an important job to do tonight and that was setting the room up ready for the Christmas Meal for the homeless members of our community. It’s a big occasion as it’s the first indoor meal since lockdown #1. The Lighthouse Centre have been serving all their meals in a takeaway style outdoors during the pandemic, so it means such a lot to be able to offer a warm sit down meal indoors (albeit in a reduced capacity to comply with covid guidelines).

We cleared the room by moving sofas, tables, chairs, boxes and bags etc to make space for the tables and seating. We covered the chairs and tables with nice cloths and decorated around the edges with tinsel to make it look festive. We hoovered and we mopped to give the room it’s final bit of sprucing up before the big event.

As the saying goes - many hands make light work - and that is always the case where GoodGym is concerned! We had a lovely night in fabulous company as always but most importantly, we have done something good to help serve our local community this evening.

Fun, fitness, friendship and feeling good!

Thanks so much for having us tonight ‘The Lighthouse Centre’. We hope everyone that comes to enjoy a meal has a lovely time ❤️❤️

No Time Like the ‘Present’

Wed 9 Dec
Report written by Nicola Marshall

Our first week back after lockdown #2 and our second task of the week! We also welcomed lovely new member, Sheila who is 80 years young! ❤️

It was brilliant to be back with the gang again as we all made our way to local charity, My CWA. My CWA supports victims of domestic violence and we’ve been working with them recently to help with sorting and organising their donations.

Tonight we did more organising of the Christmas gift donations in preparation for families coming in tomorrow. Families come to select gifts to help make Christmas that little bit brighter.

We sorted gifts, we sorted chocolates and we sorted Christmas Eve boxes. It was a lovely evening, in great company as always. It was also very touching to see the generosity of our local community.

Thanks for having us My CWA and thanks to our wonderful GoodGym members for being so fabulous as always ❤️

Sorting Christmas Gifts for My CWA

Wed 9 Dec 18:30 pm
Mill House, Brook Street, CREWE, CW2 7DE
This will help to give families affected by domestic violence a happier Christmas

My CWA is a Domestic Abuse support charity based here in Crewe. They have been supporting victims of domestic violence for many years and the work they do is invaluable and life changing.

Every year, the charity collects Christmas gifts to give to families affected. This means that nobody needs to go short of presents at what can be a very difficult time of year for families in crisis.

Our help is needed to sort the presents. Without our help, it could potentially mean that the gifts won't be sorted in time for Christmas and this would severely impact families at a time that is already difficult.

The register is capped at 8 due to COVID restrictions, so please sign up quickly to make sure you don't miss out. We will be working in separate areas in order to remain socially distanced.

***** PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MASK AND PLEASE DON'T ATTEND IF YOU HAVE ANY CORONAVIRUS SYMPTOMS*****

Don’t Worry! We Were All Santa-tised!!

Thu 26 Nov
Report written by Nicola Marshall

5 Fabulous members met up for the first time post lockdown #2 to help a local charity with sorting christmas presents for families affected by domestic violence.

As the impact of coronavirus has resulted in an increase in domestic violence, the work of this fabulous charity is more vital then ever.

Many families have had to flee their homes leaving them with nothing other than the clothes on their backs. That’s why the work this amazing charity is doing to help families make Christmas feel that little bit ‘normal’ is more important than ever.

Our fabulous members helped to sort all the gifts - tidying the shelves and helping to make the presents be more visible in the way they were displayed. Claire was busy decorating the tree - she did a beautiful job and even themed it in the charity colours. It looked gorgeous.

With a regular influx of gifts and a busy few weeks in the run up to Christmas, I have a feeling we’ll be back very soon.

As always, super proud of our fabulous team and their commitment to being such amazing supporters of our fabulous community ❤️
