Wed 31 Mar 23:50 pm
*, *, Swindon, *
Walking, jogging and running 1084 miles as a group!

So who is fed up of the lockdown and keen to get fit(ter) before Easter 🐣 ? Well you'll be pleased to know that GoodGym are here to help, by inviting you to an informal virtual event - LEJOG! This is something I have never heard of before but the idea is that we walk, jog or run from Lands End 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 to John O'Groats 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 (that's 1084 miles in total) as a group by the end of March. So there's no pressure here - if we all do a little we will get a long way! And the more that sign up the better of course :-)

And thank you to the LEJOG Leaders who are:

Week 1: Monday 1st March to Sunday 7th March - Cath Rose

Week 2: Monday 8th March to Sunday 14th March - Gaby Newson

Week 3: Monday 15th March to Sunday 21st March - Jo O'Leary

Week 4: Monday 22nd March to Sunday 28th March - Gina Johnston

Week 5: Monday 29th March to Wednesday 31st March - TBC!

Please note that there is no medal available - only virtual hugs!

The Rules 🦠

Stay local.

Walk, jog or run by yourself, with other members of your household OR with one other person from another household while social distancing.

Connect with Strava (if possible) and record your LEJOG miles on there.

Take some photos of your travels and post on WhatsApp and social media.

Have FUN 🥳!

Can't wait to get started with this - see you all at Lands End tomorrow (virtually of course)!

I would run 100 miles and I would run 100 MOORE!

Sun 7 Feb
•
Report written by Ashleigh Netherton

At GoodGym Swindon's Friday Night Virtual Social, we pondered how we could pay tribute and salute the late Captain Sir Tom Moore. Paul suggested a 100 mile relay and Stuart - that we pass the baton with our GoodGym shirts.

Captain Tom raised millions, hope and a sense of humanity through the pandemic and in his memory, GoodGym Swindon raised miles, smiles...and their shirts, and all was captured on film!

Jo made sure we were fit for parade with perfectly laundered shirts. With some words of encouragement and assurance that Tom-sorrow was another day and that we could all achieve our goals, Cath got the relay started from her treadmill. Then, shirts were thrown and miles were run in the streets and parks of Swindon. The relay successfully concluded with Samantha and her mysterious goodgym sweater?!

February Fitness Monopoly

Mon 1 Feb 09:00 am
*, *, Swindon, *
A month long fitness game!

For the whole of February we will be playing a joint game of Monopoly together. The twist: you don't pay for properties with money, you pay with exercises! Eg press ups, V sits, running

Our aim is to work as one team to make our way round the monopoly board by "buying" a property each day. There are 28 properties and 28 days in February this year, perfect.

More expensive properties mean harder challenges but don't worry, since we all work together to buy the property it just means more of us have to join in.

So we need as many sign ups as possible because 500 Burpees or 10x 5k would be a lot for one person to do themselves!

Can we complete the board by the end of the month?

Please comment on what properties you would like to see on our customised monopoly board, perhaps our favourite task locations or Swindon landmarks?

We will be using the group WhatsApp to admin this game, so if you wish to join and are not currently in the WhatsApp then please also leave comment or email me.

Inspiration credit for this idea goes to Kev from Operation Fit Swindon

Our Christmas parkrun was a cracker!

Sun 27 Dec
•
Report written by Jo O'Leary

It was our ho ho ho honour to takeover the 41st Swindon virtual parkrun - and our first Christmas parkrun 🎅🎅

As well as the big man in red, the red shirts of GoodGym were out and about, pacing, tailwalking and marshalling and making an early claim for the 2021 nice list 😇 Thank you all - you are all tree-mendous Christmas stars 🎄🌟

112 runners and walkers were present 🎁 and together this year 508 runners have completed a total of 5,760 total runs - that's a total distance of 28800km. But more than that, we've built a wonderful, friendly and supportive community. We may pine for real life parkrun, but we definitely have the next best thing. Christmas had us feeling all santa-mental so we had a lovely photo walk down memory lane, thanks to Tracey ♥️🖤

2020 virtual parkrun is all wrapped up now...the next time we meet it will be 2021. Keep those fingers and toes crossed for a brighter and better new year 🤞🤞

There's no Claus for concern - we Santa-ised our hands for this task!

Sun 20 Dec

Report written by Emma Sperring

What a fabulous time we all had, whether it was choosing gifts or delivering them - it was a very rewarding Community Mission supporting 265 Swindon families in need at Christmas Time. It also gave some of us the opportunity to meet and chat in a very safe and socially distanced way! How lovely to see one another again. Here's hoping we can all see one another soon?

The Christmas Toy Appeal has been in touch to say that 5,823 toys were donated along with ÂŁ10,900, which was used to buy additional presents. 700 children in total recieved a gift sack that included four main presents, a book, a soft toy and three stocking fillers. One in two families also received a food parcel. How amazing!

Thank you to everyone for making this happen. I am very much looking forward to the Christmas Toy Appeal in 2021.
