Flyer Away

Westminster Report written by Barnet runner

Twelve tremendous GoodGymmers met at the New Balance store on Oxford Street to flyer for Open Age this week. Open Age do brilliant exercise classes for free or very cheap to get local residents moving and they need our help spreading the word.

After a quick introduction (and two doc checks - nice one guys) we set off dodging pedestrians on our way to St James Park with Frances and Emily backmarking. We decided to aim for the big blocks of flats just past the park: it was busy and hot but we made it in quick time. We dispensed the flyers - and had a quick team photo - and set off posting flyers. As most blocks have closed off doors on the ground floor, we needed to keep our eyes peeled for where we could get to some letterboxes. Naturally, the team found some and we set about posting the flyers. A few residents stopped to ask us what it was all about and seemed happy to hear about it (and us!).

Flyers posted, we set off back to base. It was a hot night but the team kept up a brilliant pace. We stopped at the entrance to Green Park to do some drills before a progressive run up the hill towards piccadilly. Everyone set a brilliant pace up the hill and we needed a few seconds at the top to catch our breath!

From there it was a simple run back to base. Well done everyone and hope to see you all again sometime.

Clean Living

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

14 GoodGymers ran 6k to St Andrews Youth Club for a little spring clean and dominated an exercise filled session!!

Amazing to have you along for a great fitness filled evening in the heart of London Town!!

With a smaller than normal task this evening it gave us a chance to push the fitness a fair bit more than our usual Wednesday Session.

We set off guided by Rhys down to Green Park where we logged times for the GoodGym Olympics 1k Time trial by zipping around a speedy 1k Loop!! Although a few fancied making it into a 1m Time trial by missing the last turn a great effort was on show and done speedy 1k times laid down!!

If you recorded the time trial on Strava tag it in the description with #GGOlympics2018 check out the categories and Strava settings info here.

With speed training ticked off we took a gentle run over to St Andrews youth Club in St James’s where we hit a 20 minute body weight circuit in a dominating, upper body, lower body and core conditioning get a strong sweat on!!

The task was almost a cool down with the A/C on full blast in the gym we spayed, wiped and tidied in 15 cleansing minutes before we had a great of hearing the ** Oldest Youth Club in the World’s** history from John the General Manager as well as the current work and activities done to help everyone from 5-92 in Westminster.

We said our goodbyes for the summer and ran the 2k back to base with a very energetic session complete.

Hope to see you again next week!!

If anyone fancies coming along for the GoodGym Olympics on Saturday afternoon here is all the information.
