January Challenge - The Team Yuki Kawauchi One Hour Scavenger Hunt Challenge

To spice things up and provide some motivation for the last couple of weeks of the GoodGym January Challenge, Team Yuki Kawauchi have a challenge for you! If you want to know more about the January Challenge just click here to see how it’s shaping up. Basically you just need to run, walk or cycle and make sure you connect your Strava account to your GoodGym profile for your mileage to count.
The Challenge:
You have one hour to find all the following things on your run, walk or cycle. How many can you find before the timer runs out?!
How to take part:
- Set an hour timer using your watch or phone - no pausing the timer on the way!
- Using your daily exercise you can run, walk or cycle as you prefer.
- Attempt the challenge as many times as you like before 31st January but remember you should only head out once a day.
- Take a quick snap along the way to document your finds.
- Let us know how you get on in the comments below or in the Strava group
- We’ll make an awesome run report at the end of the month so share your photos with olivia@goodgym.org to be included.
Here’s what you need to find:
- A red door
- The number 58
- A sign that says ‘good’
- Something red in a shop window
- The word ‘gym’
- A statue of a person - bonus point if you can take a photo shaking hands!

- A triangle shape
- A locked up bicycle
- Pay phone
- Welcome sign
- A rainbow
You can download the challenge sheet here
Good luck!

Getting out to help out
To get our lovely gang out and about this month, we set a scavenger hunt of places that can be found wherever we all are at the moment. With entries from Ealing, Manchester and Liverpool, we scavenged our way round our locales and found new places and some favourite spots, while getting in some extra distance for the January distance challenge!
The places they were tasked to visit and snap a photo at were;
Your favourite local pub
A cinema/theatre
A medical centre (hospital, doctors etc)
A non-essential, and non-chain shop
Your favourite local restaurant
A river, lake or canal
Complete a lap of your local park
The foodbank, or a drop off point in a supermarket
A church/temple/mosque/synagogue/place of worship
Your local coffee shop
A gym/swimming pool
Complete a loop of a cul-de-sac
A postbox/post office
A Christmas tree outdoors
The view from the top of a hill

Going out to help out

Throughout January, we've been challenged to complete as many kilometers as possible, so to get you out and about, we've created a scavenger hunt! You can do this anywhere, you don't have to be in Ealing, and you can do it all at once or in as many trips as you like during the first two weeks of January, just do what you can by Saturday 16th Jan (keep your eyes peeled for part 2 for the second half of the month!).
The places you should visit, and snap a selfie at are;
Your favourite local pub
A cinema/theatre
A medical centre (hospital, doctors etc)
A non-essential, and non-chain shop
Your favourite local restaurant
A river, lake or canal
Complete a lap of your local park
The foodbank, or a drop off point in a supermarket
A church/temple/mosque/synagogue/place of worship
Your local coffee shop
A gym/swimming pool
Complete a loop of a cul-de-sac
A postbox/post office
A Christmas tree outdoors
The view from the top of a hill
Don't forget to track your journey (and link your Strava to your GoodGym profile!) to add to our area's total distance covered.
Please send any photos to Jenni at jenni@goodgym.org for the report, and enjoy the great outdoors safely!

Glad to be losing our 2020 vision!
What better way to end 2020, some might say it was a good(gym) way to end a bad year!
Here's how it went down:
- Big welcome to Sarah who took part for the first time today, she doubled up and dropped off two essential food parcels for us today!
- It was lovely to have Yvonna back with us today, she also dropped off to two families
- Shan and Miranda were our walking team today and made sure a family in West Ealing had the food they needed
- Chris and Liv took in a lovely route along the canal on their bikes to do a delivery in Southall
- Alex and Marieke took on their usual Acton delivery - They've made such a difference this year and we would be lost without them!
- Clare also doubled up for us today and did two drop - big kudos!
- Lucy joined us from Hammersmith & Fulham and teamed up with Harvey by bike for another Acton drop
- Chris helped us again this week with two drops - been great having her help over the festive period!
- And last but not least Michelle (and extremely cute sidekick Henry) dropped off the last essential parcel
Here's what Miranda had to say who took part by walking with her son:
A nice way to end the year and it was great to see we did a good deed!

Santa's BIG helpers!
It's been a challenging year for everyone, and GoodGym Ealing have been helping to keep our local foodbank stocked up throughout this year.
With tiers increasing in London faster than you can say 'ho ho ho', December's foodbank drop lasted the whole month for us and that has given even more people a chance to donate!
Thank you to everyone who has made a donation throughout this year!
