So much for the sunny trip to Sydney, we ended up in Sydni....

Warwick & Leamington Spa Report written by Becky McWass

10 runners ran to Sydenham this evening to deliver the light of Winter Wonderland to the Masses.

This evenings task involved a bit of map reading, using the local knowledge of Micky, and some very good eyes among the group before we even did our warm-up, luckily we were able to use the function room to remain warm..., we split into leafleting groups with the more intense runners taking areas a little further away... Rucksacks were handed out, displaying all the events Becky has taken part in over the years. She seems to love a good Cambridge Half... Health and safety and Dog warnings were given out, Becky has experienced a dog come through a front door on a previous leafleting task in Norfolk...

After a lovely warm up in the Fat Pug's lovely function room - cheers to The Fat Pug for keeping us warm.. We managed to leave the warmth and do a few high knees and fast feet before a gentle run, one of our longest runs this week....

Once at the lovely garage which was to be our regroup place, we ventured off into our own little areas ans discovered that we could easily get lost among the crescents within crescents. Mummy Becky ensuring we all had phones in each group in case a dog should get someone...

Who know leafleting could be so much fun, everyone had a little effort session sprinting from door to door with a recovery stop trying to get the leaflet through the doors. We also covered a fair area Sydenham and our lovely map is nearly all coloured in.

We changed it up on the run back to base and went to have a look at Leamington's Christmas lights, a nice distraction from the slight hill on the parade.

We finished off with a lovely stretch in the warmth of the function room...

Massive thanks to those that stayed after to check over which areas still need to be leafleted to...

And if you missed last night or want to join in the fun without the run, come and join us in Tesco on Thursday 21st November from 6pm to share out more Christmas love for Fareshare...

Rub a Dub Dub ... how many people can you fit in the tub?

Warwick & Leamington Spa Report written by Becky McWass

Ok so it wasn't a tub, but a very small community centre that needed a deep clean tonight.

We took over the pub this evening as many runners came out of the dark to light up the night, welcome to our new runners Andy and Cherry, and some returning runners as well as our stalwarts. We must be fun if they come back....

Tonight Becky promised us a surprise, instead of running up a massive hill we took a more gentle route to Packmores Community Centre, not quite the Gap but run by the same volunteers.

On arrival, once we found the hidden gem, thanks to Iain for navigating the door lock, we found a pile of cleaning equipment and a list of lovely jobs to do. Dividing into groups, there was a rush for the soft play area, everyone got their marigolds on and started to clean.

Emptying shelves, cleaning potties, mopping the floor, scrubbing the cupboards, sweeping the mess, wiping the tables, and seeing how many people you can fit in a tiny kitchen.

Mel gave us a cracking joke - What's the plumbers favourite tree? Toiletrees!!! - Think she might need to work on her jokes.

We had to have a count down to leave as everyone wanted to leave it spotless. Hopefully we did them proud.

On the return run we had a challenge - the handicap hill sprint. Setting off in intervals of intensity we raced back up the last hill, some brilliant use of arm drive and high knees was seen, and a lot of hardcore effort by our newer runners. We've been working on High knees so this was a great test to see how much we had learnt.

On return to the pub, big thanks to Iain for leading the cool down and Holly for collecting more numbers for the Whatsapp group.

News was shared and some of the group stayed on to carb load, or thats what we're renaming it now.

Till next week - thanks for coming.

A pain in the neck this Halloween for the master.

Warwick & Leamington Spa Report written by Becky McWass

15 runners joined us this evening to run to Lord Leycester Hospital to meet Master Heidi

In true Halloween style we had ghosts walking on our graves this evening causing a fair few shivers once we left the warmth of the fire. But they don't call us hardy fools for nothing...

After a quick warm up of speedy feet, jogging, windmill arms including a disco dance round the garden we were ready for the off.

Our longest run so far - 3.2 Km there, including** 'that hill'. **

Running through Warwick was a mean feat due to smelling all the food on offer that evening, who knew Warwick had so many lovely eateries, some potential social spots where noted in Rebecca's head.

We arrived with plenty of time to take a few photos of the huge door, and then had our first test - find the Master.

The task tonight was a little different to planned, due to the hospital raising funds for a new greenhouse they had a surplus of donations - books, a horse, (see photo) cookery items and other brick a brak. This needed to be taken out of the tiny shed and repacked into other boxes and bags and delivered to the local charity shop.

Heidi had been worrying about this task for ages due to the amount of crates and donations that needed to be shifted.

But it's amazing what you can do with 15 sets of hands, within 20 minutes we had an empty shed, a pile of donations at the shop and everything sorted into its type. We also had a few items we were allowed to keep and take home. Luckily only books were chosen and not the giant lamp shade.

The Lord Leycester Hospital is still being used to this day and has years of history, we were incredibly lucky to be given our own private tour once the task was complete. Heidi, along with her little doggy, took us through her own house and into the courtyard and up to the chapel. We learned about the brethren still living there and about the recent filming, Unfortunately we missed Tom Hardy.....

If you have a free day go and explore this amazing hospital and take in the hospitality of the Master. They also do amazing scones during visiting times.

On our run back to the Fat Pug, those speedy legs ran the hills twice for an extra workout.

Massive congratulations to those runners that completed their furthest distance last night - and especially the ones daunted by it but still came along. You were amazing. Cheers to James for leading out the group and Alain for being backstop.

Following a little cool down 6 of us went for a little drink at the Fat Pug - 2 had the most amazing looking burgers I've seen. Might have to eat there on the next social.

Next run is back into Warwick to help Way A Head, and don't forget to sign up for The Myton Hospice Santa run on the 8th December. Its sure to be fun.

Till next week - keep running.

I really enjoyed my first run with everyone! As I had so many questions about my running lights I have found the link. All three types can be found in the ‘lights’ section: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/lights/?g=25 hopefully that helps!
