Organisations Marieke has pledged to support
We were asked to help Ealing Foodbank move their operations back from St Mellitus' Church to the charity's own building right next door. They were working from the church for a good part of this and last year, with the lovely people from the church allowing the space to be used for a storage and sorting area and for people to queue and receive food parcels. Our job was to move the remaining crates back to the Foodbank's building, as well as fold and store the tables used in the church's storage area. In the meantime a taxi bus had arrived to take away the large set of mobile screens that had been used to create multiple areas in the church's aisles and nave. We had Tom working hard, who joined GoodGym recently, and Shakira, joining us for the first time, welcome Shakira! :) Harvey joined after completing another mission nearby, and with the help of the Ealing Foodbank team, we finished everything in merely 45 minutes, to everyone's amazement. Shakira and myself dropped a few tables over at Hanwell Methodist Church across the road, and we were off.
We've been asked by The William Hobbayne Charity to help with a few things tonight that will benefit the local community!
- Clearing a courtyard that will support people and local small businesses as lockdown eases
- Moving supplies to The Food Cupboard - Hanwell's new food support initiative
What do you need to take part?
- Come dressed ready to help lift, shift and clean
- A mask - we might be working closely and may need to go inside
- Gloves are useful if you have some - light gardening gloves are ideal but we'll have some disposable ones too
Meet outside The Dodo Mircopub at 5:30pm
This Thursday lunchtime Ealing Foodbank have asked for our help to shift stock and pack up the food from the church. They've been based in the church during the pandemic but are now ready to move back into the normal warehouse across the road.
What to bring:
A mask - you'll be working inside and a mask in mandatory
You may wish to wear gloves, please bring some if this is the case
There will be hand washing facilities but you may wish to bring sanitiser
Everything else you need to know:
This task will involve heavy lifting, please be prepared for this
It could take a couple of hours to complete, please be prepared to stay until 2pm
Please meet outside St Mellitus Church on Church Road at 12:00pm
At GoodGym we're about getting fit and doing good so why not run, walk or cycle to the task, you'll feel amazing afterwards having exercised and volunteered all in one!
Ealing Alternative Provision provides education for young people who are unable to follow their education in the mainstream setting. They are supporting a few local families with food parcels and are looking for volunteers to help deliver them on Thursday lunchtimes.
