Weed all About It!

Mon 23 May
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

Samina, Liz, Tabitha, Pete and Sabina all met at Papagayo to start the goodgym group run to go to Clitterhouse for gardening.

We had the usual hello chatter, "how was your week", "isn't this weather weird", "let's hope it stops raining". When we had all arrived we started the warm up.

We tied the pumpkin plants to stalks at Clitterhouse farm, then ran back to our favourite haunt.

Tabitha pulled weeds with confidence, some were more stubborn than others but had success in the end. Samina and Becka were there too

Pete and Liz were required for manual labour and weight lifting. Their tast was to move building rubbish out of sight ready for the cafe opening. There were also two extremely heavy crates to move. This was followed by weeding and sweeping.

Samina and Helen were busy "staking their claim" on the corn crop.

No more floppy stems

after expert tying to bamboo poles

and Liz and Pete did some marvelous weeding

The weeding job was very tricky, a full body work out standing up and pulling from the roots. After 30 minutes we had made a great difference but sadly were not able to remove them all...but will return soon we are sure.

We ran back to the pub for some group stretching exercises, then into our favourite pub for our usual weekly drinks.

Rebecca arrived...and everyone rejoiced

We had a round robin for the cool down stretches, followed by...

Pete and Helen had a sprint for the finish- with Pete the clear victor. After a round of stretches, we called it a night and retreated to Papagayo for a well deserved beverage.

Cheers Team Brent!

Digging

Mon 16 May
Report written by Liz James

The amazing trio Sabina, Helen and Liz met outside Papagayo. After a quick warm-up, the team quickly put their best foot forward and began the muggy run to Clitterhouse Farm.

There were 3 tasks which the team quickly completed. They dead-headed the daffodils, dug a trench around a flower bed and removed the weeds from another flower bed.

Soon, the team began their return run to Papagayo.

Tea bag

Mon 9 May
Report written by Liz James

On a muggy Monday evening, GGs met for a quick warm-up before heading to the Granville kitchen.

We quickly began the tasks set. Samina, Becca and Pete began the cleaning of the fridges. Meanwhile, Tabitha and Liz began tidying the cupboard containing the bags of bags, which were in a bit of a muddle. The final task of the evening was to sort the tea bags, taking any out of date bags home with us.

The team departed and ran back to Papagayo, where they quickly bagged seats for a quick beverage.

We are heading to the Granville Centre for our kitchen clean up session. Exercise those leg muscles with a 3-4km run each way and bulk up that core and those arms putting some elbow grease into getting rid of that kitchen grease.

Mora Than Just One Cupboard

Mon 25 Apr
Report written by Tabitha Skinner

It was a mild Monday evening and seven of the Brent Goodgym team met to take on a good deed. We warmed up and Liz led us on a speedy run to Mora Primary school. After a few moments of buzzing the bell and calling through the windows, we were let in and split ourselves into two groups for the two tasks for the evening. Liz, Pete, Sam and Lee took the trickier task (or so we thought) of carrying shelves of resources from the first floor classroom down to the Senco office on the ground floor. Meanwhile Tabitha, Samina and Helen were tasked with moving two filing cabinets of books into a newly sanded wooden cupboard in the upper hall. The school are hoping to make the upper hall a pleasant area for the children to be in, and the new cupboard was a first step. Sadly the wooden cupboard, although much easier on the eye, did not have deep enough shelves to hold the boxes and books, so we were not able close the doors once it had been filled. Realising it was not a practical solution we started moving everything back to the filing cupboards. At this point the first team had finished, so we re grouped and made our way out, with one task of the two successfully completed.

We ran backm in the daylight(!) to papagayo for a well deserved beverage and to fill the group in on our weekend activities....some had been to park run, some had hoovered the house....and one had got engaged!
