Karen Temple

I'm managing director of NPS Barnsley - a design and construction company, part-owned by Barnsley Council. We were the Council's former Property and Procurement department and transferred into the new company 6 years ago. I worked for the council 30 years before this. I care deeply about Barnsley, its people and communities. I'm a chartered quantity surveyor by profession but manage a company of 100 people of diverse professions and trades to deliver profits and excellent customer satisfaction year on year. But it's how we deliver a profit (and our business plan) that's important to me. I ensure we employ and purchase locally to help regenerate the local economy, I like to invest in our staff and in technology to help people achieve and develop and to ensure best in class services for our customers, and I like to sponsor and support local community groups, events and activities. I support our staff on volunteer action days, and approve a number of pro bono activities to get community initiatives off the ground. I've recently supported 2 'Memory Cafe's' at Berneslai Café to support carers and their loved ones suffering from dementia, and know how important it is to go that extra mile for others less fortunate, and how much it is appreciated. It's always a privilege to be involved.
