We are rooting for you!!

Hackney Report written by Joel Wiles

19 GoodGymers Run 4.5k to Haggerston Park to plan 3500 bulbs in 40 minutes of floodlite action!

Great to have so many Goodgym first timers along this evening!! Hope you all enjoyed your first Red Thunder Ride!!

With the news of the GoodGym members Christmas party (1st of December) and the fancy dress theme as well as a possible triple bill of Community Missions and parkrunning on the 24th of November (plus lunch!!).

We headed off to Not Haggerston park as an unplanned long route to the task as I got confused which was Haggerston park (even though I have been going there for over 30 years 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️).

At least it gave us a longer 3k run to the task where we met Vince, tooled up and got planting!!

Splitting into groups we attacked 3 grassed areas with Rugby and tennis training sessions going on around us!

A wide varieties of techniques to get the bulbs into the ground were on show into some quite hard ground!

40 minutes of action and our combined efforts had been super productive and 3500 Daffodils and crocus bulbs had been expertly planted to bring some spring time colour to Haggerston Park!

A shorter but faster run back to base finished off an enjoyable evening!!

Next week GG super trainer ** Paul Bown** will be leading the charge to St Luke’s to promote their Halloween inspired Light show!

See you the week after!

You made your bed now plant in it!

Hackney Report written by Joel Wiles

12 Hackney GoodGymers ran 4K to help Hollybush gardens plant flowers with 10 raised boxed in the Estates urban garden.

A band of very merry GoodGymers including 2 epic Yorkshire Marathoners set off this evening for a little adventure to South South Hackney!!

With a brilliant safety Briefing from marathero Ros and social update from soon to be Abney Trustee Eva we set off down South!

Running down to Hollybush as a group with plenty of chat (apart from me) we met Margaret and Michael who were ready for us.

This week we were working on an ingenious inside/outside urban garden of 10 raised beds inside the corridor of the estate bringing some colour and growth to concrete around the beds.

Splitting into pairs we designed amazing flower patterns to make each bed stand out and look amazing!!

We worked with precision and speed and had the task done in no time!!

A quick visit to the gnome heaven to see our handy work from last month and we were away!

With a splinter group tackling a longer 3k loop back to base we all made in back safe and sound with a fun evening complete.

Remember if you fancy running Brighton Marathon (no Ballot or charity place needed) you need to register you interest by Friday!! With places going on sale on Monday!!

The next Social which is a Hackney/Tower Hamlets collaboration on Thursday the 8th!!

Have a great week

Well (Street Common) that was a lot of Fitness!!

Hackney Report written by Joel Wiles

16 Hackney GoodGymers battled the disappointment of a last minute task cancellation to dominate a all round Body workout on Well Street Common!!

After sending Virtual Congratulations for his monumental Bournemouth Marathon efforts to Rich!! And wishing all the GoodGymers the best of luck this weekend in York. Particularly looking forward to tracking our very own Ros after her tremendously impressive training block!

With staff illness and a cancelled meeting meant that no one was able to be at Abney this evening we were not able to complete our task in the cemetery. We will be back next month!!

So we took the opportunity to pump up the fitness!! A short run to Well Street Common where we were very well lite and able to hit some very impressive fitness marks.

Starting with some running based drills we skipped, marched and bounded our way up and down the paths before putting our form drills together with some very speedy high five 400m reps!

With our running fix complete we turned our attention to some conditioning and nailed a full body workout of both strength developing exercises and hitting our cardio hard with CV exercises to time!

With us nearly done we crushed a controlled Simon says leg workout to really get those legs tingling!!

A short run back and a long stretch out finished off a top fitness session!!

See you next week

Thanks for a great first session Joel. A shame we weren't able to get to the cemetery but loved the workout, even if my legs are in a little bit of pain today (read as: A LOT of pain). See you next week.

On the Edge of Reason

Hackney Report written by Joel Wiles

17 of Hackney’s finest GoodGymers ran 5k to Hackney Downs to Edge, Mulch and sweep to victory.

With the sun setting on London Town the Hackney crew met up with energy and enthusiasm.

Darting the 2k over to Hackney Downs to meet Park Ranger Bruce who had our tasks ready and waiting.

The main task of the evening to to give the pathways around the adventure playground a tidy up by recutting the edging of the path like a nice hair cut.

With the majority of the group cutting in and edging off the path we also had to bed down a few flower beds for the winter but piling in 6 inches of mulch to help lock in the warmth and keep the winter weather away from the roots.

With 3 piles of mulch down we channeled our efforts into the edging even had enough time to tidy up the over spilling sand along the edge of the playground. 300 metres of pathways perfectly (well kind of) edged of we had enough time for the Anna K 1 kilometre timed up. For the first time including the route creator Anna!!

A scintillating turn of speed from everyone around the course had our hearts racing endorphins jumping!!

Heading back to the Bakehouse with quiz questions swirling about time zones and daylight savings. Where we stretched out and headed off into the night!

See you next week for another fun filled Tuesday!!
