Lapping it up

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

Great to be back at Salthill junior parkrun on another Sunday morning of doing good for the community.

I personally prefer junior parkrun! Why? I hear you ask.....

Because...

Its 2km and I can PB that all the time.

It has loads of happy marshals who high five and cheer you.

It has a warm up led by an overexcited grown up.

You get milestone wristbands.

It's over in 20 minutes.

The kids only focus on the finish token number and not their times.

The kids run holding hands...

Thank you to everyone who helped today from the marshal cheer points to finish tunnel positions

Great to have Rachel and Nital join us today on his first ever mission with us!

Community Cape

Jagdeep earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Jagdeep completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Jagdeep was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

New Kids On The Block

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

Who needs a ly in on a Sunday morning anyway?

Well done to our super team of marshals who braved that wintery rainy storm that lasted all through set up and the briefings and then just as the children arrived...the warm winter sun made an appearance.

We had Ciaran and new Kid Alison using the most important part of their anatomy (their thumbs) to record the ever important times....

Sara and Pam did a quick scan of the course and made sure every junior was zapped.

Our red army of volun-cheers were Jenni Harsha Nisha Ricky Sandy Keira Emily Darren Kam Meera Brendar James and Chris ...well done for keeping the juniors motivated

Our pimped out 50 star Sutyee was on tail walker duty

Whilst Jagdeep...the only man for this job was on photo duty...he really should take photography up professionally

And lucky old me had the Pun Director role today ...

(Now this lady..is a dear friend of mine and our daughters write little love letters to each other all the time...so in keeping with this trend...here is my poem to our one and only SutYee

Love you long time

To our wonderful friend Sutyee

You are such a cutey

Always here to do your run leader duty

You are a real beauty

GG are very lucky

To have you on our teamy

You are always happy

To dig in and do any tasky

So from all of us-y

Congratulations on your fifty

(I wont give up the day job!)

Baubling on and on

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

Tonights task was a lovely indoors decorating task for Slough CVS at the premises of Home Slough. Home Slough's aim is to increase opportunity and awareness of all arts in Slough.. and the Slough Council for Voluntary Services help people who want to start a voluntary group... what a perfect partner for Goodgym

Missed the Memo?!

At base camp the Goodgymmers were merrily chit chatting away when Santa Darren and Elf Ricky turn up in fancy dress!

Clearly these two had a chin wag and the social on Friday evening and decided to come in new head gear... I dont noel why they didnt tell anyone elf!

We had a short run distance today so had time for a few warm up games... it was tree strikes and your out on the knee tag game... Ricky nearly knocked me out a few times.. suppose that's the claus and effect of tagging!

All warmed up and briefed we headed out to town centre with Sally back marking.. thank you Sally

On arrival we were met by Yvette from Slough CVS who briefed us on tomorrows event and the work needed to make the premises look all festive

We had 40 minutes to turn the old Top Shop floor around... with boxes of donated decorations and 13 happy elfers we got to work

We divided into tree teams and with group run leader Manjit baubling on and on with Do as I sleigh instructions, the teams cracked on

ELF AND SAFETY

At Goodgym we take safety seriously... Head Elf Ricky made sure Cheeky Elf Chrissy and Kurious Elf Keira in particular had a little noeledge on working at heights and safe use of tools procedures

Conspicuously abstana was Darren but we soon found him banging a nail in the wall with a rowing machine! Now yule noel why Darren got the Grittiest Determination award on Friday!

Meera, Ruth, Jean, Gail and Kam busily wrapped the presents for the homeless... whilst Sally and Anna set up the chairs

That left the rest of the team using their creative flair to decorate the premises...it took a lot of elf control to keep these guys in check... a stage, a guitar and a captive audience was too much temptation for some of them! Gift me strength

40 minutes later and we were done! A festive hall ready for the good people of Slough to enjoy at their party tomorrow... we wished the team farewell and headed back to base but only after another photo by the biggest Christmas tree i've ever seen in town centre ( good job Slough Borough Council)

Next weeks task is another indoor Christmassy one for the DASH Charity... this time lets not forget the memo!

Have a great week everyone

Duckin’ N’ Divin’

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

Five fabulous runners ran to help Get Active Berkshire promote their new free boxing and rugby clubs in Britwell by distributing flyers

It was a cold and rainy evening but we weren't going to be down for the count... we zipped up, wrapped up, put the mouth guards in and headed out for another long run... we were going to go the distance today

20 minutes in we took time out to collect Rachel and Jagdeep en route.. Jagdeep was in his ninja outfit again and ready to knockout some flyers

We reached the library and had a few streets earmarked as priority... so we divided into 2 teams did the Haka challenge and went off to crash tackle those letterboxes

With a forward pass from Ricky to Rachel they were first past the line and ready for their next charge down

Jagdeep was literally ducking and diving and no where to be seen with his All Blacks outfit

Sally was our fly(er) weight champion! She used her fast feet to box-kick those leaflets out

SAVED BY THE BELL Time was up... group photo was done... and we were off the ropes and heading back to base

A huge thank you to all our runners this evening for braving the elements and getting stuck into the task

Next week we are back at The Jubilee River Riverside Centre to do some work in the boat yard

MISSION NEWS Slough is now off the mark and has completed its first mission Manjit and Jenni helped move a sofa for Mr A so that his wifes hospital bed could be delivered

Have a great week Manjit

Fangtastic frantics in Spooky Slough

Slough Report written by Manjit Birk

An un-boo-lievable turnout this evening on what was the chilliest evening we've had since Goodgym Slough started. A warm welcome to Jagdeep who joined us on his first group run today ( he's the one who looks like Batman in the photo's)!

FUNNY BONES

I wasn't sure how halloweeny our Slough runners were going to be but they clearly have a sense of humerus ... when asked to do a scary lunge... the totally crept it real and gave us their loudest roars! Special shout out to Mattie and Allistair who have clearly been practising their scary voices for Wednesday!

After the warm up, we made our way to The Parvaaz Project, with Keira back marking and Jenni and Michelle leading the way. Thank you ladies...

We were warmly greeted by Alex the centre manager, who had three tasks that needed doing so we swiftly grouped into smaller teams to crack on with them - Boo-tiful

  • Jenni and the line painters
  • Kam and the rackers
  • Tim and the litter pickers

It was a dark task for sure this evening. Those security lights were on fire trying to keep up with the number of GourdGymers on the premises. You could even say we needed a skele-copter light !

Thirty minutes in and the lines had been marked out, the never ending leaves had been racked and the litter had all been skipped

Once again, a fangtastic job done by everyone!

Next weeks task is a leaflet drop for WWT.

Have a great week... Manjit
