The 3(plus 8) Leafleteers

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

11 determined GoodGymers ran 7.5k to deliver 400 leaflets for Open Age charity Pop up Cafe!!

Meeting at the New Balance store ready to roll this week were 11 all action GoodGymers! Welcoming Al on his first GG run we got going on our 90 minuets of continuous movement.

Heading to the North West of the Borough we made good time as we powered through the nearly 4k run swiftly.

Splitting up into 2 units we headed west along what some would say is a straight road! Leapfrogging each other to create a speedy delivering strategy. Once we got into our stride there was no stopping us even if we didn’t all always know where we were going. 35 minutes in and all the leaflets at been posted so a very Pop up Cafe event is almost certainly secured for Open Age!!

Picking up the pace on the way back we stormed back to back in record time where we stretched out made our way home with a serious increase in our fitness when doing good for a fantastic local charity!

Next week we are off to One Big Family homeless charity to make some food for Westminsters homeless community, would love to have you along!

Have a great week

Taking leafleting to Another level!

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

10 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k, climbed hundreds of stairs to deliver 400 leaflets for DAWS (drug and alcohol support charity).

Heading out the gate strong but steady as we made our way South to Pimlico weaving in and out of some quite back streets. We arrived at our destination for the evening ChurchHill Garden Estate.

A massive place so we split up Into 2 groups and got climbing!! Tackling some epic 9 story high blocks at top speed up the stairs really getting the legs working! Working in unison as a team covering floors in sequence for optimum efficiency!

35 minutes of continuous action later and we had climbed Everest as well as delivering over 400 leaflets to promote the work of DAWS (Drug and Alcohol service) who help those that need to access life changing help and support in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham.

We headed back up to Oxford Street working out way through Green Park and a sneaky short cut next to Sexy Fish.

Thanks for such great work tonight and for looking after me when I was feeling ill.

See you all next week when we will be helping St Andrews Youth Club in St James'.

Have a great week!

Maverick A Strike

Westminster Report written by Joel Wiles

12 Westminster GoodGymers ran 7k and moved 9k and delivered 375 leaflets to promote a Bone health course for Open Age charity.

We had a special guest this evening as new GoodGym Kings College London trainer Alyx joined us to take part of the session.

After a tip top introduction from Alix we headed out towards Marylebone fully loaded with flyers! Once we reached the area where the course will take place we split into two groups. Taking a side of the road each we used the leap frogged delivery method and powered our way North. A ** Maverick** squad delivered with care free abandon down the right hand side of each Street often nipping off just to scare me! While the left lane deliverers stuck to the script and gave me an easier time spotting them!

Picking up the running pace as we past Marylebone station and hit over drive on the roads west of Regents Park finishing off almost all the leaflets in 35 skilful minutes!

Given our location it seemed like a plan to go for a 3k loop around the Outer Circle of Regents Park! Although it did feel like an awful lot of other people had had the same idea and Frieze Art fair was also just closing we managed to zip around in no time ramping up the pace towards the end!

A little jaunt down Harley Street brought as back to base perfectly on time where Alyx Stretched is out before we headed off into the night with a top evenings GoodGym action under our belts!

Thanks for coming and hope to see you all next week for our visit to One Big Family homeless charity to make their food for the food run to Westminsters homeless community.

You better be-leaf it, we cracked the code!

On a chilly Wednesday evening 9 GoodGym-ers braved the cold, ran 8km and cleared St Saviour's grounds of leaves!

With Cory away I took up the Westminster mantle and was pleased to meet eight hardy runners who wanted their Wednesday night fix of getting fit and doing good!

Smooth was not how the night was going to go but no problem ever stops a GoodGym-er and with a hastily cobbled together sign in sheet, a slightly all over the place intro and some last minute direction setting we were all ready to go!

Not so smooth

Huge thanks to Howard and newcomer Jason for leading the way with their superior knowledge of Westminster's streets!

We managed to evade the hordes of shoppers around Oxford Street and made our way south to Pimlico, and with a a brisk run that really warmed us up, we reached Saint Saviour's and set about finding the store cupboard where our tools were waiting for us! This ought've been a simple task in itself but proved to be the hardest part of the night! We weren't to be stopped though and after much wandering about the church grounds we found a door that accepted our code and we were rewarded with gloves, rakes, brushes and bin bags!

Found it

In 25 minutes we cleared the whole rear section of the church and completely filled all the bags provided for us! We posed for a group photo (thanks to David our impromptu photographer) and then were back on our way to base. Earning ourselves some bemused looks from those around we completed a good stretch outside the university and then headed on our merry way home.

A great night

Thanks to everyone for supporting me and making it a fun night for all! Don't forget the upcoming GG Christmas party - lots of fancy dress options for Westminster!

You can sign up for next week here!

Cheers, Pritesh

Ten and done....

Meanwhile in Westminster a large group of incredibly nice people headed down to Sayers Croft to help maintain one of the small pieces of green wildlifey spaces that Westminster has to offer.

With lots of newbies starting this week they were given a fulll extended in depth breakdown of why GoodGym is so good and why them coming along helps to make it better. A quick health and safety brief, discussion around current affairs and upcoming races we were off. Now as this weeks tasks was a 10k round trip with the option to return via uber we went out at a conservative pace before I sneakily dropped in a few intervals.

The plan on our arrival was to clean the classroom windows from the outside. Sweep and weed the yard. Give the area a jolly good litter picking, wipe down the signs around the site that were covered in leaves and weed out any bad stuff that was left floating in the pond.

Sadly when we arrived the key to let us in to the area to do all of these wonderfully good deeds had disappeared so instead we took a tour of the area, kept an eye out for wildlife and areas that on our return we will pay extra care and attention tooooo.

Now as we hadn't expended to much energy doing the task EVERYONE ran the full 10k back but sadly some were caught napping when the Sky kindly opened up. But as we said, it's only water.

Hopefully on our return they will have found the keys and we can once again turn these fingers green.
